National festival of science and fiction
Les Mycéliades is a national science fiction festival that takes place every winter in over 80 cinemas and media libraries across France, including Annecy. Created in 2023, this festival, supported by the CNC, offers two weeks of screenings, meetings, workshops, and conferences in January-February, focusing on science fiction and the imaginary. Annecy is one of the major hubs for this unifying event.
Created in 2023 at the initiative of the Centre national du cinéma et de l'image animée (CNC), the Les Mycéliades festival is a unique event: a decentralized national festival dedicated to science fiction and the imaginary, unfolding simultaneously in over 80 pairs of cinemas and media libraries throughout France.
The festival's name refers to mycelium, the underground network of fungal filaments that connects organisms, a metaphor for a cultural event that spreads and branches out across the country. In Annecy, a city already strongly associated with cinema thanks to the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Les Mycéliades finds particularly fertile ground.
Les Mycéliades is not limited to screening science fiction films. The festival offers a rich and varied program combining screenings of classic and contemporary films, meetings with authors and scientists, creative workshops, conferences, games, and contests. This multidisciplinary approach explores the links between science and fiction, imagination and foresight, dream and reality.
Each edition is centered around a unifying theme that guides the programming. The 2026 edition explores the theme of "Resiliences", questioning humanity's ability to overcome crises and reinvent itself in the face of future challenges. This theme resonates particularly through science fiction works, which have always imagined post-catastrophe worlds and resilient societies.
