Chamonix Vallée Photo Festival: Photography at the Summit of the Alps
The Chamonix Vallée Photo Festival was born in 2023 from the conviction that the Chamonix-Mont-Blanc valley, the cradle of mountaineering and a land of grandiose landscapes, deserved a photography festival worthy of its peaks. In just a few editions, the event has established itself as a major meeting point for mountain, nature, and adventure photography enthusiasts and professionals.
The festival is distinguished by its exceptional territorial anchoring: exhibitions are scattered across five towns in the valley — Chamonix, Argentière, Les Houches, Servoz, and Vallorcine — with over 300 outdoor photographs, freely accessible to all walkers and residents. This valley-wide scenography creates a unique photographic trail in Europe, where images dialogue with the landscapes that inspired them.
High-altitude Masterclasses Facing Mont-Blanc
One of the festival's most remarkable attractions lies in its high-altitude masterclasses. Participants are invited to photograph grand landscapes, alpine wildlife, macro photography, and light play in the valley's most iconic locations: Aiguille du Midi, Plan de l'Aiguille, La Flégère, Parc de Merlet, and Alpage de Charousse. Guided by professional photographers, these immersive workshops offer a unique training experience in real high-mountain conditions.
A Rich Program of Meetings and Screenings
The Majestic Congress Centre and the Kandahar hall host conferences, film screenings, photographic documentaries, and artist meet-and-greets. These exchange sessions allow the public to discover the behind-the-scenes stories of the most beautiful mountain images and to understand the technical and artistic challenges of photography in an alpine environment.
A Launchpad for Young Photographers
The Chamonix Vallée Photo Festival places particular emphasis on passing on knowledge and fostering emerging talent. The Tremplin (Springboard) program supports photographers under 30 by offering them visibility and professional guidance. Photography contests open to all complement this initiative, with five themes proposed each year to stimulate participants' creativity.
A Festival for the Entire Valley
By involving five towns and offering free outdoor exhibitions, the Chamonix Vallée Photo Festival goes beyond a simple festival to become a unifying event for the entire Chamonix Valley. Hoteliers, shopkeepers, mountain guides, and residents come together to bring this event to life, celebrating the natural and cultural heritage of the Mont-Blanc massif.
