About Scènes du Jura
Scènes du Jura — edition 2026
Les Scènes du Jura are celebrating their 30th anniversary with the 2026-2027 season, described by the team as "electric, vibrant, and even a little neon." The season kicks off on Tuesday, September 8th and Thursday, September 10th, 2026, at 7:30 PM with the Levers de rideau season launches in Dole and Lons-le-Saunier. It continues on September 18th and 19th with the free Folies Douces event at Place de la Liberté in Lons-le-Saunier, and concludes on Saturday, June 5th, 2027, in Chapois with the highlight event Comme un bol d'(annivers)air(e)…. Theatre, dance, circus, music, comedy, and hybrid performances will circulate between the Italian-style theatres of Lons and Dole, La Commanderie, La Fabrique, and about fifteen other towns in the department. Ticket sales open on Saturday, September 12th, 2026.
2026-2027 Season: Celebrating 30 Years of Les Scènes du Jura
For this anniversary season, the Scène nationale du Jura is rolling out a program that "shines throughout the Jura, from the Italian-style stages of Lons and Dole to the pastures of the Haut-Jura." The anniversary theme runs throughout the entire year: the Levers de rideau season launches, designed with artist-in-residence Olivier Veillon, celebrate "thirty years of live performance, thirty years of encounters, thrills, inhabited stages, and miles traveled"; the show Vous êtes ici by Edith Amsellem (December 11th, Théâtre de Lons-le-Saunier) offers an immersive look behind the scenes; Mémoires Dansées by Olivier Lefrançois and the Espace des Sens company (January 7th and 8th, Théâtre de Dole) weaves a collective, danced memory of these thirty years with the residents of Grand Dole.
A Three-Part Season Opening
The season begins with two launch evenings on Tuesday, September 8th and Thursday, September 10th, 2026, at 7:30 PM, in Dole and Lons-le-Saunier. Next come the Folies Douces, a street arts event co-produced with L'Amuserie: following the success of the first edition, there will be not three but four free performances over two days, September 18th and 19th, under the Clock Tower at Place de la Liberté in Lons-le-Saunier, featuring a pop-up bar by L'Amuserie and light refreshments from the Bistro d'à côté. On the weekend of September 19th and 20th, the European Heritage Days will open the backstage areas of both Italian-style theatres for free, in partnership with the Dole and Lons-le-Saunier tourist offices.

Les Scènes du Jura: A National Stage at the Heart of the Department
Created on July 1, 1997, by the merger of the municipal theaters of Lons-le-Saunier and Dole, Les Scènes du Jura is a unique National Stage that radiates throughout the Jura department. Under the presidency of Claire Chaton Aubey and the direction of Cédric Fassenet, the institution carries an ambitious artistic project titled “Faire corps” (To Become One), which aims to connect the women and men who live, act, and create in the territory.
A Unique Network of Venues
The distinctive feature of Les Scènes du Jura lies in its exceptional territorial network. The institution has four main venues:
- Théâtre de Lons-le-Saunier: An Italian-style theater with 550 seats, rebuilt in 1903 after a fire.
- Théâtre de Dole: 400 seats.
- La Commanderie (Dole): 1,100 seats, for large-scale productions.
- La Fabrique (Dole): 200 seats, a space for creation and community engagement.
In addition to these permanent venues, there are also spaces in Champagnole, Poligny, Salins-les-Bains, Morez, Saint-Amour, and other towns, forming a total of about twenty different performance spaces per season, in both urban and rural areas.
A Demanding Multidisciplinary Program
Each season, Les Scènes du Jura offers around 55 artistic proposals and 105 performances, covering a wide spectrum of disciplines:
- Theater: From revisited classics to contemporary writing.
- Dance: Contemporary dance and innovative choreographic forms.
- Circus: Contemporary circus and movement arts.
- Music: Concerts, musical creations, and musical performances.
- Hybrid Forms: Performances blending multiple disciplines.
Season Openings: “Jours de fête” (Festival Days)
Every year in September, Les Scènes du Jura inaugurates its new season with “Jours de fête”, festive and free events held in the theaters of Lons-le-Saunier and Dole. These season openings, in collaboration with invited companies, set the tone for the upcoming cultural year and allow the public to discover the program in a friendly atmosphere.
A Major Cultural Player in the Region
With a total budget of 2.5 million euros and a team of 27 employees, Les Scènes du Jura is the leading cultural institution in the department. The institution serves a population of 258,600 inhabitants and develops cultural mediation, artistic education, and support for contemporary creation activities throughout the year.
