Les Pontorsonnades: Pontorson Goes Back in Time

Every June, the town of Pontorson, the historic gateway to Mont-Saint-Michel, travels back to the Middle Ages for a festive and lively weekend. Created in 2012 by the Tourist Office in association with the municipality, Les Pontorsonnades has become the major medieval festival of the Mont-Saint-Michel bay, attracting family audiences from all over Normandy and neighboring Brittany.

Streets Alive with History

For two days, the streets of Pontorson transform into a living medieval village. Street performances, parades of costumed characters, and historical sketches animate the town from morning to evening. Visitors are warmly invited to dress up to fully immerse themselves in the medieval atmosphere and actively participate in the proposed activities.

Encampments, Workshops, and Tournaments

The program includes medieval and Viking troop encampments with combat demonstrations, falconry, ancient craft workshops—illumination, calligraphy, pottery, blacksmithing, leatherworking—and a medieval market with artisans offering creations inspired by the Middle Ages. Children can enjoy workshops specially designed for them and ancient games that transport them through the centuries.

A Popular and Festive Event

Les Pontorsonnades are organized by the Pontorson Festival Committee and benefit from the support of the municipality and the Mont-Saint-Michel Tourist Office. The medieval festival is open on Saturday afternoon until the evening and all day Sunday, with a medieval tavern offering food and drinks in the spirit of the era. The atmosphere is friendly and family-oriented, true to the spirit of a popular festival rooted in the rich history of this Norman territory.
