Magnifique Printemps: Poetry Celebrated in Lyon
Since 2017, Magnifique Printemps has been the festival that places poetry and the Francophonie at the heart of Lyon's cultural life. For the first time that year, the Printemps des Poètes in Lyon and the Week of the French Language and the Francophonie were united in a single event, creating a unique gathering of its kind in France.
Coordinated by the association Espace Pandora, a "poetic agitator" since 1985, the festival benefits from long-standing expertise in the dissemination and promotion of contemporary poetry. For three weeks in March, Lyon and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region come alive to the rhythm of words, voices, and languages.
A Rich and Free Program
Each edition offers more than sixty events, mostly free and accessible to all: musical readings, meetings with authors, poetic performances, shows, writing workshops, exhibitions, screenings, contests, and unusual experiences. The festival takes place in diverse venues such as libraries, bookstores, theaters, cafes, parks, and public spaces.
Voices from the Francophonie
Each year, the festival hosts poets and artists from across the Francophone world – from Africa, the Caribbean, the Maghreb, Quebec, and Europe – to showcase the richness and diversity of the French language. Prestigious patrons accompany each edition, from Patrick Chamoiseau to Patrick Quillier, contributing to the festival's influence.
A Festival Rooted in its Territory
Magnifique Printemps is supported by the City of Lyon, the Ministry of Culture, the National Book Centre, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region, and UNESCO, with Lyon designated as a UNESCO City of Literature. The festival reaches throughout the entire metropolitan area and the region, with events in numerous partner municipalities.
Since its creation, Magnifique Printemps has successfully rallied a large audience around poetry, proving that this living art form can reach all audiences, from long-time enthusiasts to the curious discovering the power of words for the first time.
