One of the oldest street arts festivals in France, in the heart of Hendaye
Founded in 1985 by the theater company Chimères, Mai du Théâtre is one of the oldest festivals dedicated to street arts in France. Now led by the Culture Hub of the City of Hendaye, the festival celebrated its 40th anniversary and its 40th edition in 2025, marking four decades of commitment to live outdoor performance.

Loyal companies such as Le Petit Théâtre de Pain, Pernette, and Hecho en Casa participated in the celebrations.
The 41st edition of Mai du Théâtre will take place from May 21 to 24, 2026, in Hendaye. The festival will continue to offer street theater, circus, dance, and music performances in the town center around the Gaztelu Zahar fronton.
