The festival of shared knowledge in Cambo-les-Bains
The Topatopia Festival is a participatory and free event held every summer in Cambo-les-Bains, at the Paxkaleku fronton. Its name, a contraction of "Topatu" (to meet in Basque) and "Topia" (referring to utopia and "Tokia", the place in Basque), perfectly summarizes its philosophy: a place for utopian encounters. Created in 2018 by the Topatopia association, this festival of shared knowledge invites artists and artisans to exhibit their works while encouraging the public to test, practice, and learn through workshops covering art, cooking, sports, recycling, and ecology.
The Festival Topatopia was born from a simple and generous idea: to create a space where everyone can learn, share, and create together. Founded in 2018 in Cambo-les-Bains by the Topatopia association, chaired by Paul Cuesta, this festival is distinguished by its participatory and inclusive approach. Its name, coined from the Basque topatu (to meet) and the concept of utopia, reflects the ambition to create an ideal meeting place between knowledge, creativity, and conviviality.
The heart of the festival lies in its participatory workshops. Artists, artisans, and enthusiasts share their know-how with the public in fields as varied as art, cooking, sports, recycling, and ecology. Each workshop is an invitation to experiment, to create with one's own hands, and to leave with new skills. The festival encourages an active and playful approach where everyone, regardless of age, can learn new practices.
Beyond the workshops, Topatopia offers a festive program with concerts, DJ sets, sports tournaments, open-air cinema screenings, and live performances. The Paxkaleku fronton, the festival's iconic setting, transforms into an ephemeral village where musical stages, exhibition spaces, and convivial areas coexist.
True to its values of accessibility and sharing, the Festival Topatopia is entirely free. The Topatopia association, driven by a team of passionate volunteers, defends a festive and supportive vision of culture in the Basque Country. The festival is part of an eco-responsible approach, with particular attention paid to recycling, waste reduction, and environmental awareness.
The green setting of the Paxkaleku fronton, chemin de Gachanto Borda in Cambo-les-Bains, offers an ideal natural backdrop for this celebration of knowledge. Nestled in the hills of the Basque Country inland, far from the hustle and bustle of the coast, Topatopia offers an enchanted interlude where time stands still to make way for creativity and encounters.
The Festival Topatopia 2026 is expected to take place at the end of August at the Paxkaleku Fronton in Cambo-les-Bains. Participatory workshops, concerts, shows, and entertainment in a friendly and free atmosphere for the whole family.
The Festival Topatopia will return at the end of August 2026 at the Paxkaleku Fronton in Cambo-les-Bains for a new edition focused on sharing and creativity. The Topatopia association is preparing a rich program of participatory workshops, concerts, DJ sets, tournaments, and entertainment for all audiences.
The festival, entirely free, remains true to its mission of creating a utopian meeting place between artists, artisans, and the public in the heart of the Basque Country inland.
