About Mayenne Basketry Festival

Every year, the Mayenne Basketry Festival brings together around twenty basket makers and artisans from across the region at Place Juhel, right at the foot of the Mayenne castle. Originally launched in 2024 in Laval by the Vannerie en Mayenne association, the event has been held in the castle park since 2025. Exhibitors showcase and sell a variety of baskets, lamps, hats, rattles, and bags, all crafted using traditional techniques from both local and international origins, ranging from Neolithic weaving styles to Romanian rush work.

Mayenne Basketry Festival — edition 2026

The third edition returns to the castle grounds at Place Juhel on September 12th and 13th, 2026. Around twenty professional basket makers and artisans will be showcasing and selling their work, alongside weaving demonstrations and workshops for children. Food and drinks are available on-site, and the weekend concludes with a live concert.
