Bourges in the Time of Charles VII
The Medieval Festival of Bourges celebrates the city's prestigious history in the Middle Ages. In the 15th century, Bourges was the capital of the kingdom of Charles VII, nicknamed the "little king of Bourges" before his reconquest of the Kingdom of France with the help of Joan of Arc. The festival reconstructs this glorious period by transforming the historic center into a true medieval city for a weekend.
Authentic Historical Reenactment
At the foot of Saint-Étienne Cathedral, in the Archbishop's garden, a medieval military camp comes alive with 27 reenactors in period costumes. These history enthusiasts faithfully recreate the daily life of soldiers and inhabitants of the 15th century. Visitors discover medieval trades: blacksmiths, barber-surgeons, merchants, coin striking, basket makers, leatherworkers, and stained-glass masters demonstrate their ancestral skills.
Medieval Market and Entertainment
A medieval market with 37 merchants offers historical recipes and period utensils, allowing visitors to discover medieval crafts and gastronomy. Various entertainments punctuate the weekend: combat demonstrations, archery, street shows, medieval music, and period dances. This Medieval Festival offers an immersive and educational experience that delights families and history enthusiasts.
