Centennial tradition and floral crowning
The Rosière Festival is one of the oldest and most cherished traditions in Mehun-sur-Yèvre. Since 1882, in accordance with the legacy of Catherine Soulat-Pateux, the commune annually celebrates a deserving young woman from Mehun who becomes the Rosière of the year.
Only about thirty towns or villages in France still perpetuate the tradition of the rosières. There were several thousand at the end of the 19th century. Mehun-sur-Yèvre is one of those communes that have managed to preserve this exceptional intangible heritage.
The Rosière is elected during the last municipal council of the year (in December) from among the candidates who have applied to the town hall since September. She is then crowned on the first Sunday of June in the magnificent Jardins du Duc Jean de Berry. This crowning is the highlight of the festival.
Each year, a different theme is chosen by the elected Rosière. The commune then adorns itself with thousands of handmade crepe paper roses: nearly 100,000 roses are made each year by volunteers from the Rosière Committee to decorate the parade and the Rosière's house, creating a magical setting throughout the town.
The Rosière Sunday includes:
The festival is jointly organized by the City of Mehun-sur-Yèvre and the Comité de Rosière de Mehun-sur-Yèvre (an association created in January 2024, chaired by Pedro Da Rocha). The Committee is responsible for making the decorations, and for supporting the Rosière and her procession throughout the year.
For its 144th edition, the Rosière Festival of Mehun-sur-Yèvre will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2026 with the coronation of Délizia Chameau-Pereira, elected 144th Rosière. The chosen theme this year is Brazil, which will inspire all the floral decorations handcrafted by the Rosière Committee.
The 144th edition of the Rosière Festival will take place on Sunday, June 7, 2026 in Mehun-sur-Yèvre. Délizia Chameau-Pereira, a young woman from Mehun-sur-Yèvre from the Belle Fontaine district elected during the municipal council meeting on December 9, 2025, will be crowned 144th Rosière in the Jardins du Duc Jean de Berry.
As every year, the Rosière chooses the theme that will inspire the decorations for her festival. Délizia has chosen Brazil: vibrant colors, a festive atmosphere, and Latin inspirations will guide the creation of the 100,000 crepe paper roses made by the volunteers of the Rosière Committee, as well as the decorations for the parade and the Rosière's house.
Délizia Chameau-Pereira will be accompanied, for her coronation, by:
