Centennial tradition and floral crowning
The Fête de la Rosière is one of the oldest and most cherished traditions in Mehun-sur-Yèvre. Since 1882, the town has celebrated the election of a deserving young woman from Mehun each year, who becomes the Rosière of the year.
Only about thirty towns or villages in France still perpetuate the tradition of the Rosières. There were several thousand at the end of the 19th century. Mehun-sur-Yèvre is one of those towns that have managed to preserve this exceptional intangible heritage.
The Rosière is elected by the municipal council in December to be crowned on the first Sunday of June in the magnificent Jardins du Duc Jean de Berry. This crowning is the highlight of a weekend of festivities.
Each year, a different theme is chosen by the elected Rosière. The town is then adorned with thousands of crepe paper roses made by hand. The Rosière's house is entirely decorated with these colorful floral creations, creating a magical setting throughout the town.

The 144th Rosière will be elected and celebrated during the first weekend of June 2026. The tradition continues with the crowning in the Jardins du Duc Jean de Berry, the floral parade, and musical performances that liven up the entire town, decorated with thousands of crepe paper roses.

Young women from Mehun wishing to apply must register before October 30th of the previous year. A Rosière committee is then formed to manage the decorations.
