The Christmas Fairy Tale in Compiègne: A Winter Enchantment

Each year, the city of Compiègne adorns itself with its most beautiful lights to host its Christmas market, named 'The Christmas Fairy Tale'. This large-scale event, organized by the City of Compiègne and the Agglomeration of the Compiègne Region (ARC), transforms the historic center of the imperial city into a true Christmas village for over five weeks.

A Market in the Heart of the Imperial City

The Christmas market is set up in the most emblematic locations of the city center:

  • Town Hall Square: the heart of the market with its artisan and producer chalets
  • Change Square: space dedicated to entertainment and attractions
  • Pedestrian Streets: extension of the market with magical decorations and spectacular illuminations

Crafts, Gifts, and Delicacies

The market chalets offer everything needed to prepare for Christmas: handmade gifts, decorations, wooden toys, jewelry, textiles, and many delicacies to give as gifts or enjoy on site. Local and regional producers present their specialties: foie gras, chocolates, sweets, mulled wine, and other seasonal delights.

Magical Rides and Attractions

The Compiègne Christmas market stands out with its spectacular fairground attractions:

  • The Four Elements Ride: themed ride in the Town Hall Square
  • Santa's Ride: festive attraction in the Change Square
  • Carousels and traditional rides for children

Entertainment and Street Performances

On Saturday and Sunday afternoons, from late November to late December, fanfares and performance troupes stroll through the pedestrian streets to liven up the market. Musicians, stilt walkers, jugglers, and magical characters create a magical and festive atmosphere. Santa Claus is of course present to meet the children.

A Major Event in the Oise

The Compiègne Christmas Market attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year from across the Hauts-de-France and Île-de-France regions. Its proximity to Paris (less than an hour by train) makes it an ideal destination for a magical getaway with family or friends.
