The Christmas Market of Yesteryear at the Forge-Musée of Étueffont, between crafts and forge traditions
The Étueffont Christmas Market, nicknamed 'Marché de Noël d'Antan', is an authentic winter market organized at the Forge-Musée of Étueffont (90170). Every December, about thirty artisan and producer exhibitors take over this exceptional heritage site to offer their creations, while four blacksmiths conduct live forge demonstrations. Mulled wine, waffles, and a vintage atmosphere guarantee a unique and unforgettable Christmas experience.
Étueffont (90170) is a village of about 1,400 inhabitants in the Territoire de Belfort, located in the community of communes of Vosges du Sud. It is particularly known for its remarkable Forge-Musée, an exceptional heritage site that presents the history of metallurgy and blacksmithing in this region historically marked by the ironworking tradition.
Every December, the Forge-Musée is transformed into an enchanting Christmas market: the Christmas Market of Yesteryear. Organized by the Association de la Forge-Musée d'Étueffont, this event offers an authentic and unique experience, combining traditional crafts, blacksmithing demonstrations, and a festive winter atmosphere.
The setting of the Forge-Musée gives a unique heritage dimension to this Christmas market:
The Forge-Musée d'Étueffont is a remarkable heritage site that traces the history of metallurgy in the Territoire de Belfort and the Southern Vosges. The region has long been an important center for iron processing, fueled by the forests of the Vosges (for charcoal) and the rivers (for motive power). The Étueffont forge is one of the last living testimonies of this industrial tradition.
The Christmas market is a unique opportunity to discover this heritage in a festive and warm setting. The blacksmithing demonstrations, carried out by passionate volunteers, illustrate the ancestral technical gestures of ironworking and help to understand the importance of this activity in the rural economy of the region.
The adjective 'of Yesteryear' ('d'Antan') that accompanies the market's name perfectly reflects the atmosphere sought by the organizers: an authentic Christmas market, far from shopping malls and electric lights, rooted in the artisanal and festive traditions of a bygone era. Visitors can find original and quality gifts while enjoying a unique cultural and heritage experience.
The Étueffont Christmas Market of Yesteryear 2026 will once again welcome artisans, blacksmiths, and visitors to the Forge-Musée for two weekends of artisanal discoveries, blacksmithing demonstrations, and winter conviviality.
