The Christmas village at Parc de la Mairie and Place de la Libération
Every mid-December, Herblay-sur-Seine transforms the Parc de la Mairie and Place de la Libération into a true Christmas village. Artisans and producers offer their creations in beautifully decorated wooden chalets for three days. Aged cheeses, foie gras, champagne, nougat, and artisanal biscuits are displayed alongside jewelry and seasonal decorations. Santa Claus is present all weekend to welcome families from Herblay.
Herblay-sur-Seine is a commune in the Val-d'Oise department, situated on the hills overlooking the Seine between Argenteuil and Pontoise. Its sloping streets, charming houses, and viewpoints over the Seine loop make it one of the most pleasant towns in the department. The town recently adopted the name Herblay-sur-Seine to emphasize its connection to the river. Every December, the Parc de la Mairie and the Place de la Libération are transformed into an enchanted Christmas village, welcoming artisans, producers, and families for three days of festivities.
The Herblay-sur-Seine Christmas Village occupies two complementary spaces: the Parc de la Mairie, a green area in the heart of the town center, and the Place de la Libération, a lively commercial street. This dual location creates two distinct yet complementary atmospheres: the natural and romantic setting of the park for artisanal chalets, and the bustling square for musical and street entertainment. The wooden chalets overflow with quality artisanal creations: fine jewelry, decorative items, fashion and accessories, ceramics, and pottery.
The gourmet offerings at the Herblay-sur-Seine Christmas Village are particularly well-curated. Producers and affineurs present their finest products: aged cheeses from traditional cellars, artisanal charcuterie from local farms, homemade duck foie gras, champagnes and wines from small producers, spiced Christmas biscuits, soft nougats with almonds and pistachios, and chocolate bars and gift boxes. This festive gastronomy, ideal for filling holiday tables and creating generous gift baskets, attracts visitors from all over the region each year in search of exceptional products.
The Herblay-sur-Seine Christmas Village is animated for three consecutive days—Friday, Saturday, and Sunday—offering everyone the opportunity to visit at their convenience. A generous food court offers raclette, tartiflette, artisanal burgers, hot dogs, and sweet desserts for lunch or dinner in a friendly atmosphere. Musical entertainment—jazz bands, acoustic ensembles, Christmas choirs—provides a festive soundtrack throughout the three days. Festive decorations—fairy lights, Christmas stars, suspended bells and angels—immerse the entire site in an enchanted atmosphere as night falls.
Meeting Santa Claus is one of the highlights of the Herblay-sur-Seine Christmas Village. The jolly old man is present throughout the market, receives children in a beautifully decorated space, and takes the time to chat with each child, listen to their wishes, and distribute traditional gifts. These special moments with Santa Claus create unforgettable memories for children, contributing to the magic of Christmas. Access to meet Santa Claus is completely free.
The hills and the banks of the Seine in Herblay-sur-Seine offer beautiful panoramas in all seasons. In December, the morning mists rising from the river, the low winter sun, and the violet twilight skies create scenes of particular poetry. A walk along the banks of Herblay before or after visiting the market allows visitors to fully appreciate this exceptional natural setting. The Route des Coteaux, winding through old market gardens, offers remarkable views of the Seine loop and the riverside towns.
