The Marché Nocturne de Monestiés: A Thursday Evening Like No Other

For several years, every summer Thursday evening, the Foirail square in Monestiés transforms into a unique meeting and sharing place in the Tarn. The Marché Associatif de Monestiés brings together local producers, artisan creators, and musicians in a friendly and festive atmosphere that attracts visitors and residents from all over the department. From the end of June to the end of August, ten evenings offer the best of Tarn's terroir accompanied by live, free concerts.

Local Producers, the Pillars of the Market

From 5:30 PM, producers set up on the Foirail and open their stalls. All are committed to local agriculture, often organic or sustainable, and offer consumers the best of what the Tarn land produces:

  • Artisan bread baked in a wood-fired oven, with cereals and seeds
  • Freshly picked seasonal fruits and vegetables from local market gardens
  • Farm cheeses from sheep and goats from the Tarn hills
  • Free-range chicken eggs
  • Meats from local producers: lamb, farm pork, duck
  • Honey and beehive products from Tarn beekeepers

Each week, the same loyal producers are joined by newcomers, making the market a place of constant discovery of the region's food resources.

On-site Catering: A Culinary Journey

For those who wish to dine on-site before or during the concert, the market offers festive and varied catering:

  • Breton galettes — a market institution
  • Spicy Creole specialties and Reunion Island dishes
  • Wood-fired fries, crispy and fragrant
  • Tunisian couscous and Maghreb tagines
  • Artisanal pizza
  • Homemade cakes and desserts prepared by association members

The association's refreshment stand offers organic and local wines, regional craft beer, and non-alcoholic beverages. Everything can be consumed on-site around the tables set up on the Foirail.

Artisan Creators

In addition to food producers, artisan creators offer their unique works and creations:

  • Hand-carved and turned wood objects
  • Artisanal leather goods and leather items
  • Interior decoration and design objects
  • Creative pottery and ceramics
  • Silver and natural stone jewelry
  • Plants and seeds of local species

Concerts, the Musical Soul of the Market

From nightfall, a free concert enlivens each market evening. The diversity of genres is a trademark of the Monestiés market:

  • Jazz and swing for a jazzy atmosphere under the stars
  • Soul, funk, and reggae to get bodies moving
  • World music and global sounds for traveling
  • Rock'n'roll and blues for more electric evenings
  • Choir and polyphonic singing for collective emotions
  • Traditional music from different cultures
  • Accordion and French chanson in the popular tradition
  • Slam and musical poetry for curious minds

In 2026, the lineup included the Shamade Swing Trio (swing), Yacarés (soul/funk/reggae), Muselik (world music), 5 Oreilles (rock'n world), Trio Figuéris (world music), La Típica Folklórica (Argentine tango), and Clara Sanchez (accordion chanson).

Monestiés, an Exceptional Medieval Setting

Monestiés is labeled "Most Beautiful Village in France", a distinction that testifies to the exceptional quality of its built and natural heritage. This medieval village in the Tarn, perched on a hill overlooking the Cérou valley, has a 15th-century collegiate church housing a polychrome Entombment of Christ ensemble of remarkable beauty, classified as a historic monument.

The Foirail, the traditional livestock market square, is accessible from the historic center via a medieval bridge spanning the Cérou. This exceptional setting gives the night market a unique atmosphere, blending the ancient stone of Monestiés with the warmth of Tarn summer evenings.

An Associative and Volunteer Market

The Marché de Monestiés is organized by a volunteer association committed to promoting local produce and creating social connection around the market and music. Each year, the association recruits new volunteers to ensure the continuity of this emblematic event. Its sustainability relies on the collective investment of the residents of Monestiés and neighboring communes.

Marché de Monestiés — edition 2026

The Marché Nocturne de Monestiés returns in 2026, every Thursday evening from late June to late August at Place du Foirail. On the program: local organic producers from 5:30 PM, artisan creators, and free concerts every week. A season of conviviality and culinary and musical discoveries in the Most Beautiful Village in France in the Tarn. The association is looking for volunteers to join the organizing team.
