Every June 21, Sedan celebrates the Fête de la Musique: amateur musicians, conservatory students, and established artists play for free in the streets, squares, and cultural venues of the Ardennes city. At the foot of the famous fortified castle, the Place d'Armes and the historic heart transform into open-air stages. The day is entirely free and open to all.
The Fête de la Musique in Sedan
As everywhere in France since 1982, the Fête de la Musique transforms the city of Sedan into an open-air stage every June 21. Music freely takes over public spaces, from early evening until late at night, in all genres and for all audiences: rock, pop, jazz, French chanson, classical, world music, and electro.
A celebration in the heart of the Ardennes city
Usually, the festival unfolds in Sedan's historic center, around the Place d'Armes, at the foot of the fortified castle, as well as in the city center's squares and forecourts and in cultural venues such as the cultural center and the Ardenne Métropole conservatory. The city center's bars and cafés extend the evening with terrace concerts, and local ensembles (municipal harmony orchestra, big band, music schools) perform alongside amateur groups and invited artists.
