A Classical and Baroque Music Festival in the Heart of the Plateau

Since 2000, the Musiques en Vivarais-Lignon festival has invited music lovers and the curious to wander from village to village, guided by music and the beauty of the places. Located on the Vivarais-Lignon plateau, on the border between Haute-Loire and Ardèche, the festival has forged a unique link between learned music and rural heritage, transforming Romanesque churches, Protestant temples, and village halls into concert stages with remarkable acoustics.

Twelve Concerts Between Grand Evenings and Discovery Sessions

The festival's program is structured around two complementary formats. The four major evening concerts, at 9 p.m., feature internationally renowned soloists, leading baroque and classical music ensembles, and prestigious orchestras such as the Orchestre national Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. These concerts take place in the most beautiful buildings in the area: the church of Chambon-sur-Lignon, the church of Saint-Agrève, the Saint-Martin church of Tence, and the Calibert of Mazet-Saint-Voy.

The eight "An Hour With" discovery sessions, scheduled for 6 p.m., offer a more intimate and free format. Young talents, emerging ensembles, and educational musicians present their repertoire, introduce sometimes little-known instruments, and interact with the audience in a warm and friendly atmosphere. These events are held in the towns of the two intercommunalities: Jaunac, Rochepaule, Saint-Jeure-d'Andaure, Chenereilles, Le Mas-de-Tence, Saint-Jeures, Devesset, and many other villages on the plateau.

Classical and Baroque Music at the Heart of the Programming

While classical and baroque music forms the beating heart of the festival, the program willingly ventures into other territories: Balkan music, Brazilian repertoire, swing musette, jazz, and contemporary creations enrich the musical offerings. The festival thus cultivates a strong identity, at the crossroads of artistic excellence and openness to all audiences.

The festival also offers a week-long choral singing workshop, led by professional choirmasters, culminating in a performance integrated into the program. This workshop, open to amateurs and experienced singers alike, contributes to the participatory and unifying spirit of Musiques en Vivarais-Lignon.

A Heritage Setting Between Haut-Lignon and Val'Eyrieux

The festival unfolds across the territory of six communes in Haut-Lignon—Chenereilles, Le Chambon-sur-Lignon, Le Mas-de-Tence, Le Mazet-Saint-Voy, Saint-Jeures, and Tence—and in the communes of Val'Eyrieux in Ardèche. Perched at nearly 1,000 meters above sea level, the Vivarais-Lignon plateau offers a preserved natural setting and remarkable architectural heritage, a legacy of the historical coexistence between Catholic and Protestant communities. Concerts in the temples and churches highlight this unique heritage richness and often provide exceptional acoustics.

A Festival Supported by Two Intercommunalities

Musiques en Vivarais-Lignon is organized jointly by the Communauté de communes du Haut-Lignon and the Communauté de communes Val'Eyrieux, with the support of local authorities. This intercommunal cooperation, spanning two departments—Haute-Loire and Ardèche—demonstrates the cultural vitality of the region and the common desire to keep music alive in the rural villages of the plateau.
