The trail of the Monts de Flandre
The Nord Trail Monts de Flandres, commonly known as NTMF, has become in a few years one of the major trail events in northern France. Organized by the association Flandres Sport Nature, this annual April event brings together over 8,500 participants starting from Saint-Jans-Cappel, a village located at the foot of Mont Noir and Mont Rouge, in the heart of the Monts de Flandre.
Seven distances for all levels
The NTMF stands out for the richness of its offering with seven race formats adapted to all types of runners, from trail beginners to seasoned ultra-trailers.
Short formats: 13 km and 25 km
The 13 km is the ideal distance to discover trail running gently on the paths of the Monts de Flandre. The 25 km offers a more complete course with more elevation gain, allowing you to fully enjoy the beauty of the Flemish landscapes.
The night trail: 30 km
An original feature of the NTMF, the 30 km night trail is run with headlamps in the darkness of the Flemish paths. This unique event offers an incomparable sensory experience, between dark forests, ridge paths, and cross-border passages lit only by the runners' lamps.
Long formats: 42 km and 59 km
The 42 km and 59 km are the emblematic distances of the NTMF, offering demanding hilly routes that cross the main Monts de Flandre. The 59 km, a nod to the department number of the Nord, is particularly appreciated by experienced trail runners.
Ultra-trails: 80 km and 115 km
For the most enduring runners, the 80 km (start at 7 am, 1,150 m of positive elevation gain) and the 115 km (start at 2 am, 2,150 m of positive elevation gain) offer significant challenges. These ultra-trails cross the Monts de Flandre from one end to the other, with passages in Belgium, offering an intense sporting adventure in the heart of a cross-border territory.
A cross-border route
The long routes of the NTMF cross the Franco-Belgian border, offering runners a unique cross-border experience. The paths take the flanks of Mont Noir, Mont Rouge, Mont des Cats, Mont Cassel, and neighboring Belgian mountains, unfolding an exceptional panorama over the Flanders plain.
Conviviality and Flemish gastronomy
Beyond sporting performance, the NTMF is renowned for its Northern conviviality. The aid stations offer regional products and Flemish gastronomy, and the finish line is in a festive atmosphere with local beer and specialties from the North. The finish village welcomes runners and companions in a spirit of celebration and sharing.
