Roubaix's artistic light trail
The Nuits des Arts Lumineux is a winter artistic event in the city of Roubaix that invites the public to rediscover Roubaix's heritage in a poetic and magical light. From December to April, a luminous trail dotted with artistic installations, video mappings, and monumental illuminations transforms the city's facades, monuments, and squares into living canvases. Renowned artists and digital arts students collaborate to create original light works that reveal Roubaix's architecture and history in a new light.
The Nuits des Arts Lumineux is a major artistic event in the city of Roubaix, transforming the urban landscape into an open-air art gallery every winter. From December to April, a light trail dotted with artistic installations invites visitors to rediscover Roubaix's architectural heritage in a poetic and enchanting light.
The Nuits des Arts Lumineux light trail extends across several emblematic sites in Roubaix, connecting historical monuments to public spaces with a luminous thread.
The facades of Roubaix's most remarkable buildings serve as giant screens for spectacular video mappings. The Église Saint-Martin hosts 'Reflet', a creation by students from ARTfx, ESAAT, and Piktura schools, revisiting the details of this historic architecture. The Hôtel de Ville on Grand'Place presents 'Sur le Fil et le Point', a visual and sound poem by Yann Nguema exploring the textile imagination.
Beyond ephemeral creations, the trail highlights iconic locations in Roubaix with permanent installations: the chimney of the Teinturerie park, the bell tower of the Église Saint-Joseph, the Hospice Barbieux, and many other heritage sites are enhanced by artistic lighting that magnifies their architecture.
The artist Thoma Vuille, aka Monsieur Chat, contributes to the trail with his famous smiling yellow feline, animated with the help of the studio Holymage. This mural located on rue du Général Sarrail is full of references to Roubaix and demonstrates the local anchoring of the presented works.
At the Archives nationales du monde du travail, artist Bruno Ribeiro presents 'Trames', a monumental projection exploring the link between memory and technological progress, resonating with Roubaix's industrial and textile history.
The highlight of the event, La Nuit des Arts, is an exceptional evening where the entire city comes alive around light arts. This annual evening, in its 28th edition, brings together thousands of visitors in the streets of Roubaix for a festive and artistic nocturnal stroll.
The Nuits des Arts Lumineux is distinguished by its collaborative dimension. National and international renowned artists work alongside students from Roubaix's art schools (ARTfx, ESAAT, Piktura) to design the light works. This intergenerational collaboration enriches the creations and anchors the event in the local educational and cultural fabric.
