1, 2, 3 Seollal: South Korea comes to Lille
Since 2022, the 1, 2, 3 Seollal festival has been making Lille vibrate with the colors of South Korea. Organized by the K-France association, this unique event in northern France celebrates Seollal, the Korean Lunar New Year, the country's most important traditional holiday.
A rapidly expanding festival
Born modestly at Bazaar Saint-So with 900 visitors for its first edition, the festival has experienced meteoric growth. The second edition, organized at EuraTech, attracted 3,500 people. Since the 3rd edition, Lille Grand Palais has been hosting the event, providing a venue worthy of its ambition and growing audience.
A rich and varied program
The festival offers a complete immersion into Korean culture through numerous activities:
- K-pop shows: performances by cover groups and dance troupes, K-pop contests.
- Traditional arts: demonstrations of traditional Korean dance, martial arts (taekwondo), calligraphy, and crafts.
- Gastronomy: stands offering authentic Korean cuisine (bibimbap, tteokbokki, kimbap, bulgogi) and a taste of the flavors of the Land of the Morning Calm.
- Discovery workshops: introduction to the Korean language, trying on hanbok (traditional costume), origami, temporary tattoos.
- Exhibitors: over 40 stands showcasing cultural products, Korean cosmetics, manga, merchandise, and artisanal creations.
- Conferences: discussions on Korean culture, society, and traditions.
A cultural bridge between Korea and Hauts-de-France
The festival's name is a nod to both the traditional Korean game '1, 2, 3 Sun' (mugunghwa kkochi pieotseumnida), popularized by the series Squid Game, and the celebration of the Lunar New Year. The K-France association, founded in Lys-lez-Lannoy, is dedicated to introducing and promoting South Korean culture to the French public, fostering intercultural exchange.
