The largest Christmas market in northern France
Created in 1997 on the initiative of the Federation of Downtown Merchants of Amiens, the Christmas Market has become in less than three decades the largest Christmas market in northern France. From its modest beginnings with a few chalets, it has grown to over 130 red chalets spread over 2 kilometers of illuminated aisles, crossing the historic heart of Amiens from Place René Goblet to Place de l'Hôtel de Ville.
The Christmas Market route is a truly magical stroll. The red chalets, illuminated by thousands of lights, wind through the medieval streets and majestic squares of Amiens. Artisans, creators, and producers from all over France and beyond offer their expertise: decorative items, handmade toys, jewelry, textiles, pottery, as well as gastronomic specialties from the Picardy region and all other regions.
The Christmas Windows, on Rue de Noyon, extend the enchantment with animated scenes that tell fairy tales. The Jules Verne Worlds, on Place Gambetta, pay homage to Jules Verne, the illustrious Amiens native, with installations and animations inspired by his novels.
A highlight of the Christmas Market, the light show of Amiens Cathedral Notre-Dame is an event in itself. Every evening, the Gothic facade of the UNESCO World Heritage masterpiece is illuminated with shimmering colors during a monumental sound and light show lasting about fifty minutes. In 2025, the Chroma show will illuminate the cathedral from November 28th to December 28th.
The Christmas Market offers a continuous program of entertainment throughout its duration. Magical parades cross the city center several times a week, featuring fantastic characters, musicians, and acrobats. Street performances surprise passers-by at every turn. The Jules Verne Express, a small tourist train, offers a fun way to discover the market and the city center of Amiens.
With over one million visitors each year, the Amiens Christmas Market is a major economic and tourist driver for the metropolis and the Hauts-de-France region. It attracts visitors from all over France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom, making Amiens an essential destination for the holiday season.
