PAN! Calypso: The Caribbean in Mayenne

The PAN! Calypso Music Festival is a unique musical event in France, entirely dedicated to calypso music and Caribbean culture. Born from the passion of LADB Steelband, a steelpan orchestra based in Louverné, the festival transforms Mayenne into a Caribbean island each year for a week of festivities.

A Rich and Varied Program

The festival spans a week, with weekday events in Laval and a weekend of concerts in Louverné:

  • Steelband concerts featuring over 250 artists and 20 groups from France, London, and Trinidad-and-Tobago.
  • DJ sets with Caribbean, soca, calypso, and dancehall sounds.
  • Film screenings on Caribbean culture.
  • Steelpan discovery workshops open to all, to learn about this iconic instrument from Trinidad.
  • Family activities and creative workshops for children.

The Steelpan: An Instrument Born in Trinidad

The steelpan (or steel drum) is a percussion instrument originating from Trinidad-and-Tobago, born in the 1930s from recycled oil drums. It is now recognized as a full-fledged concert instrument. LADB Steelband, founded 25 years ago in Louverné, is one of the main ambassadors of this instrument in France.

Gastronomy and Tropical Atmosphere

The festival offers a complete culinary experience with:

  • 100% homemade Caribbean dinner on Saturday evening, by reservation.
  • Food trucks and Antillean stand throughout the weekend.
  • Cocktail bar with tropical flavors.

The warm and festive atmosphere of PAN! Calypso makes it a unique event in the cultural landscape of Mayenne, combining musical discovery, conviviality, and openness to the world.
