ℹ️ Festival discontinued. The Paradox Festival is no longer held: the last publicly documented edition was the 5th, organized at Château de Saint-Michel-de-Boulogne in July 2016. No edition has been announced since. This page is kept as an archive of the festival's history.
The Paradox Festival was an electronic music and visual arts event that took over the Château de Saint-Michel-de-Boulogne, a remarkable heritage site located in the heart of southern Ardèche. Since its first edition in 2009, this festival offered an immersive experience, blending musical performances and visual creations within the preserved ruins of the medieval castle.
The Château de Boulogne, built in the 12th century and classified as a heritage site, provided a spectacular setting for the festival. Its stone walls, towers, and open spaces overlooking the Ardèche landscape were transformed during the festival into a place of total spectacle, where the monumental projections of Kolectif Alambic and the videos of Nymphicus Production adorned the medieval architecture, creating a striking dialogue between ancient heritage and contemporary creation.
The musical program of the Paradox Festival was distinguished by its desire to mix emerging artists and recognized names from the French and international electronic scene. With over 16 hours of live music per edition, the festival offered an ambitious and poetic sound journey, oscillating between experimental projects and more popular sets. Techno, ambient, house, electronica, and audiovisual performances followed one another in a unique atmosphere. Artists who have performed at the castle include Groj, Saycet, Rival Consoles, Electric Rescue, rRoxymore, Andromakers, Luke Abbott, and Clara Moto.
The festival was supported by the Deltabar Production association, founded in 2005, which brought together professional actors from the cultural landscape of southern Ardèche. The collective developed original projects, attentive to contemporary creation and the crossing of artistic disciplines.
The Paradox Festival was held every two years, in mid-summer, over two evenings. Five editions took place between 2009 and 2016, making the Paradox Festival an anticipated event on the electronic scene in Ardèche. Since the 5th edition in 2016, no new edition has been announced and the festival no longer seems active. Should a new edition ever be organized, this page would be updated.
