Breton pardon and horse fair in Bulat-Pestivien
The Pardon de Notre-Dame de Bulat is one of the oldest Breton pardons in Côtes-d'Armor, celebrated every year in Bulat-Pestivien around the Nativity of the Virgin Mary (September 8th). This age-old tradition combines religious ceremonies, a procession with the silver Virgin and banners, a tantad (traditional Breton bonfire), and a horse fair. Since 1747, the Bulat-Pestivien horse fair has been a true institution, attracting over 8,000 visitors on the Monday following the pardon for foal competitions, boules games, fairground attractions, and a large market.
The Pardon de Notre-Dame de Bulat is celebrated every year in Bulat-Pestivien, a small town in Kreiz-Breizh (Central Brittany), around the feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary (September 8th). The Notre-Dame de Bulat church, a listed Historic Monument, is the heart of this celebration: this flamboyant Gothic building from the 15th-16th century, with its remarkable porch tower, hosts the services and the procession.

Since 1747, the Bulat-Pestivien horse fair has been a true institution. Organized on the Monday following the pardon (the first Monday after September 8th), it brings together breeders and horse enthusiasts for foal competitions, stallion presentations, and transactions. The fair is also enlivened by boules games, fairground attractions, and a large market in the village streets.
The Pardon de Notre-Dame de Bulat 2026 will be held from September 12th to 14th in Bulat-Pestivien. Mass in Breton, nocturnal procession, tantad, solemn pardon, and horse fair are on the program.
