Eco-jazz festival in Sud Charente
For nearly two decades, the Respire Jazz Festival has established itself as a must-attend jazz event in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Set in the green and intimate surroundings of the former Puyperoux Abbey (Saint-Gilles Abbey), about twenty kilometers south of Angouleme, the festival offers a unique setting to discover jazz in all its forms.
Under the artistic direction of guitarist Pierre Perchaud, the program focuses on taste, openness, and excellence. Jazz, improvised music, musical conferences, and jam sessions take place from Thursday to Sunday in a friendly atmosphere where artists and the public come together. Each evening is extended by a jam session where invited musicians and spectators meet in the warm ambiance of the venue.
True to its values, Respire Jazz is a committed eco-festival dedicated to inclusion and respect for the environment. The festival offers moderate prices, free admission for under 18s, as well as discounts for those in need, advocating for an accessible vision of culture. On-site catering favors local products and short supply chains.
In 2026, the Respire Jazz Festival will not offer a full multi-day festival, but will organize a unique concert on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at the abbey of Puypéroux in Montmoreau. On the program: the ERA#P project by drummer Elie Martin-Charrière, preceded in the first part by the jazz workshop of the Conservatoire du GrandAngoulême directed by Pierre Aubert.
For this year without a full festival, the Respire Jazz association has chosen to organize a special concert to remain present with its audience. The event is set for Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 8:30 PM at the abbey of Puypéroux, the festival's historic site in Sud Charente.
The evening features the ERA#P project by young drummer Elie Martin-Charrière, surrounded by Nina Gat (piano), Christelle Raquillet (flute), and Elvin Bironien (double bass). A musical journey between contemporary jazz and improvised music.
Opening the evening, the jazz workshop of the Conservatoire du GrandAngoulême, directed by Pierre Aubert, offers a set that illustrates the work of transmission dear to Respire Jazz since its beginnings.
The Respire Jazz Festival takes place at the former Puyperoux Abbey, Aignes-et-Puyperoux, 16190 Montmoreau, in Charente (Nouvelle-Aquitaine).
