Street Arts Festival in Ornans, capital of the Loue Valley
Every August 15th, the town center of Ornans transforms into an open-air stage for the Rues en Scène festival. This free event dedicated to street arts features circus performances, street theater, musical parades, fantastic processions, and entertainment for all ages. From 5 PM to 10 PM, the alleys and squares of this charming town in the Loue Valley, the homeland of painter Gustave Courbet, host companies that surprise and amaze spectators at every turn.
The Rues en Scène festival takes over the historic center of Ornans, a jewel of the Loue Valley and the birthplace of painter Gustave Courbet, every August 15th. For one evening, the medieval alleys, the bridges over the Loue, and the picturesque squares of the town become stages for live performances that surprise and enchant passers-by.
The Rues en Scène program highlights circus arts, street theater, and musical parades. At every street corner, spectators discover performances as surprising as they are unique: jugglers, acrobats, actors, street musicians, and artists of all disciplines take over public spaces to create unexpected artistic encounters.
Fantastic processions parade through the town, blending costumes, music, and theater in colorful and poetic corteges. Children's shows play an important role, making Rues en Scène a true family festival where every generation finds its joy.
The epicenter of the festival, Place Courbet, hosts the traditional fair with its classic attractions—including the unmissable cotton candy—and larger-scale performances. Refreshments and light catering allow festival-goers to fully enjoy this festive outdoor evening, set against the exceptional backdrop of the houses on the Loue.
Rues en Scène is an entirely free event, open to all from 5 PM to 10 PM. This free access reflects the organizers' desire to make street arts accessible to as many people as possible, in the popular and generous spirit that characterizes this artistic discipline. The festival is co-organized by local enthusiasts involved in the cultural life of Ornans.
The 5th edition of Rues en Scène will take place on August 15, 2026, in the town center of Ornans. Circus shows, street theater, musical parades, and processions from 5 PM to 10 PM. Free admission.
