Old Books at the Heart of a Medieval Village
The Salon des Bouquinistes de Sainte-Suzanne is held every spring in the medieval town of Sainte-Suzanne-et-Chammes, one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France. The picturesque alleys, ramparts, and timeless atmosphere of the village offer an ideal setting for this event dedicated to old and second-hand books. The fair takes place in the Butte Verte parking lot, in immediate proximity to the medieval fortress.

The booksellers present offer a wide range of old books and documents covering many fields:
- Literature: classic novels, first editions, rare books, and collector's items
- History: historical works, memoirs, travelogues, and period documents
- Comic Books: old comics, collector's albums, fanzines, and rare publications
- Old Children's Books: illustrated albums, fairy tales, and old school books
- Science and Technology: old treatises, manuals, and encyclopedias
- Regionalism: works on the Mayenne, Maine, Pays de la Loire, and local history
- Prints and Old Papers: etchings, old postcards, posters, and graphic documents
The Association Le Présent de Suzanne
The fair is organized by the association Le Présent de Suzanne, founded by Loïc Lebourdais and Michel Gourlay, who are passionate about old books and heritage. The association also runs a permanent bookshop in the village, open since 2025, which offers over 4,500 old and modern works. This shop, located at 11 rue de la Libération, has become a place for sharing and meeting for book lovers in Sainte-Suzanne.
A Friendly and Accessible Event
The Salon des Bouquinistes aims to be a moment of friendliness and sharing around the passion for books. Visitors can browse the stalls, chat with booksellers, leaf through rare works, and make unexpected discoveries at affordable prices. The relaxed and warm atmosphere of the event makes it a popular gathering for bibliophiles, collectors, and the simply curious.
Sainte-Suzanne, Village of Books
With its booksellers' fair, permanent bookshop, and various literary events, Sainte-Suzanne-et-Chammes is gradually establishing itself as a village of books in Mayenne. This cultural vocation complements the already rich heritage and tourist offerings of the medieval town and contributes to its attractiveness throughout the year.
