Monumental sound and light show on the Croix de Lorraine in Colombey-les-Deux-Églises
Génération De Gaulle is a nighttime show projected in 3D on the Croix de Lorraine in Colombey-les-Deux-Églises. Created in 2013 with the voice of Robert Hossein, the show became "Génération De Gaulle", narrated by Alain Delon. For 45 minutes, the 44-meter high Cross becomes the screen for a fresco mixing French songs from the 1960s, archive images from INA, and three-dimensional visual effects, every summer evening at the Mémorial Charles de Gaulle.
Every summer, at dusk, the Croix de Lorraine in Colombey-les-Deux-Églises transforms into a giant screen to host the sound and light show Génération De Gaulle. This emblematic monument, 44 meters high, made of pink granite from Perros-Guirec and bronze, weighing over 1,000 tons, becomes the surface for a spectacular 3D projection that retraces the era of General de Gaulle through French popular culture.
For over 45 minutes, the show immerses spectators in the heart of the 1960s with a narration carried by the voice of Alain Delon. The glorious moments of General de Gaulle's presidency unfold to the rhythm of the hit songs of the era: Johnny Hallyday, Jacques Dutronc, Édith Piaf, Serge Gainsbourg, and Enrico Macias resonate at the foot of the Cross. Archive images from the INA blend with three-dimensional visual effects to create an immersive fresco where history, music, and technology combine brilliantly.
The show was created in 2013 under the title "De Gaulle en Grand", with the voice of actor and director Robert Hossein, retracing the General's personality and actions. This first edition attracted nearly 30,000 spectators, encouraging the Mémorial Charles de Gaulle to renew the event every summer. In 2016, the show underwent a major transformation, becoming "Génération De Gaulle", with a new focus celebrating the De Gaulle generation through radio, television, and cinema, narrated by Alain Delon.
The show takes place every evening at dusk, from mid-June to the end of August, with times adjusted to sunset. Spectators gather outdoors, facing the illuminated Croix de Lorraine, for a unique sensory experience combining monumental projections, spatialized sound effects, and light animations. The natural and historical setting of the site, overlooking the Haute-Marne countryside, adds a special emotional dimension to this journey through time.
Beyond entertainment, Génération De Gaulle is a true tribute to the memory of the General and to a pivotal era in French history. The show allows new generations to discover or rediscover the great moments of the nascent Fifth Republic, the modernization of France, and the cultural effervescence of the 1960s. Produced by the company Penseur de Prod in partnership with the Mémorial Charles de Gaulle, it aligns with the mission of transmission and memory carried by this important national heritage site.
