About Fantastic Picnic at the Abbaye de Fontenay
Every year on a Sunday in September, the Fantastic Picnic brings together a gourmet hike through the Fontenay valley and a farmers' market set up in front of the abbey. Hikers set off in the morning for an eight-kilometer trek punctuated by stops featuring Crémant de Bourgogne and local products, before heading in the afternoon to the large meadow where artisans and producers host their stalls, complete with on-site dining and musical entertainment. The day concludes with a hot air balloon launch, weather permitting. The hiking ticket also includes admission to the abbey on the same day.

The 2026 edition takes place on Sunday, September 13th. The program features a gourmet hike through the valley, an artisan and farmers' market in front of the abbey, outdoor dining under a marquee, and live music, followed by a hot air balloon launch at the end of the day, weather permitting.

- 9:00 AM — Producers set up in the main meadow
- 10:00 AM — Gourmet hike departure (8 km), with stops for Crémant de Bourgogne and local products
- 12:00 PM — Lunch served on-site under a marquee in the heart of the market
- Afternoon — Artisan and farmers' market, live musical entertainment
- 5:00 PM — Hot air balloon launch (weather permitting)
- 6:00 PM — Market closes
