About Steam Train
A Resurrected Historic Line
The Auxois Steam Train is operated by the association Chemin de Fer de la Vallée de l'Ouche (CFVO), created in 1978 to preserve and operate a section of the old Épinac line, one of the oldest railway lines in France, built in 1830. The 7-kilometer route on Decauville narrow gauge (0.60 m gauge) connects the Bligny-sur-Ouche station to Pont-d'Ouche, on the banks of the Burgundy Canal.
Festi'Vapeur, the Highlight of the Season
Every August 15th, the CFVO organizes Festi'Vapeur, an exceptional day dedicated to railway heritage. From 10 am to 6 pm, visitors can admire several operational locomotives, participate in activities, and discover the behind-the-scenes operations of a steam railway. This event attracts train enthusiasts and families from all over Burgundy.
A Living Heritage Driven by Volunteers
Throughout the season, from May to September, the steam train runs on Sundays and public holidays with three daily departures from Bligny-sur-Ouche. The association also offers steam driving courses, allowing participants to drive a locomotive, and themed trains. The ongoing restoration of a Decauville 6304 locomotive, supported by the Fondation du patrimoine, demonstrates the volunteers' commitment to preserving this unique industrial heritage.

2026 season of the Auxois Steam Train, operated by the CFVO (Chemin de Fer de la Vallée de l'Ouche) departing from Bligny-sur-Ouche (Côte-d'Or). Steam train services on Sundays and public holidays from May 1st to September 27th, daily diesel trains from Monday to Friday from July 6th to August 26th, and several highlight themed trains throughout the year: Wellness Train, Escape Game Train, Fireworks Train, Festi'Vapeur on August 15th, Halloween Train, and Santa's Train.
2026 Season of the Auxois Steam Train
The CFVO (Chemin de Fer de la Vallée de l'Ouche) offers a full season of services for 2026 on its 7 km historic line, built in 1832, between Bligny-sur-Ouche station and Pont d'Ouche, in the heart of Burgundy (Côte-d'Or).
2026 Service Schedule
- Steam Train: every Sunday and public holiday from May 1st to September 27th, 2026, with 2 round trips per day.
- Diesel Train: every day from Monday to Friday from July 6th to August 26th, 2026 (no service on Saturdays), with 1 round trip per day.
Highlight Themed Trains
Several event days punctuate the 2026 season, with specific equipment and atmosphere (single fare of 14 € adult / 7 € child, online reservation mandatory):
- Saturday, June 20th, 2026 — Wellness Train: introduction to Shiatsu and Do In in the steam train carriages.
- Saturday, June 27th, 2026 — Escape Game Train: a unique immersive adventure game in the region, on the historic 1832 line and in the depot surrounded by centenary locomotives.
- End of July 2026 — Fireworks Train: journey in an old-fashioned illuminated passenger carriage, from Bligny-sur-Ouche to Pré-Magnien, returning to watch the Bligny-sur-Ouche fireworks display (exact date to be confirmed).
- Saturday, August 15th, 2026 — Festi'Vapeur: a grand full steam day from 10 am to 6 pm, railway model exhibitions, demonstrations, shuttle train between the station and the depot, and three special steam train journeys departing from Bligny-sur-Ouche (11:30 am, 2:30 pm, 4:30 pm). A highlight of the season.
- Saturday, October 31st and Sunday, November 1st, 2026 — Halloween Train: the haunted train of the Ouche valley, with vampires at the controls, decorated carriages, and mysterious characters.
- Saturdays, December 5th and 12th, Sundays, December 6th and 13th, 2026 — Santa's Train: magical steam journeys to meet Santa Claus.
Steam Driving Courses
The CFVO also offers steam locomotive driving courses, with more dates scheduled in 2026 than in 2025. A typical day begins at 9:30 am at Bligny-sur-Ouche station with the preparation, heating, and greasing of the locomotive, followed by a round trip in the cabin on the line.
