Open-air festival at the Murs à Pêches in Montreuil
Imagine a green theater nestled between old stone walls covered with climbing plants, in market gardens that seem to have sprung from another time in the middle of the Parisian suburbs. This is the unique and enchanting setting of the festival Sous les Pêchers, la Plage, organized every spring by La Girandole in the Théâtre de Verdure des Murs à Pêches in Montreuil.
Its name says it all: under the peach trees that recall the historical fruit-growing vocation of these gardens, the festival creates the atmosphere of a festive and relaxed beach, a space of freedom and open-air celebration where children run between shows and adults gather to spend a timeless afternoon or evening.
In its 15th edition in 2025, Sous les Pêchers, la Plage can boast of having built a large and loyal audience, attached to the unique spirit of this festival unlike any other. In fifteen years of existence, the festival has offered hundreds of shows and welcomed thousands of festival-goers in this exceptional setting.
The 2025 edition, held on May 24 and 25, 2025, featured an eclectic program mixing a brass band with La Fanforale, contemporary dance with Keep Company, percussion with Udu, and artists Alice Minck and Sista Jahan. From 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday, the program presented a succession of artistic forms in an atmosphere of popular and family celebration.
The festival's strength lies in its deliberately eclectic and surprising programming. Each edition mixes various performing arts: music, of course, but also street theater, contemporary circus, dance, performances, clowns, and puppets for the younger ones. This multidisciplinary approach reflects the identity of La Girandole, a venue for all kinds of live performance.
The festival is organized around several highlights that punctuate the day or the weekend: shows programmed on the main stage of the Théâtre de Verdure, small itinerant performances in the garden paths, activities for children, and on-site food and drink. Admission is free with suggested participation, ensuring accessibility for the greatest number.
The Murs à Pêches site in Montreuil is itself a full character in the festival. These limestone walls, built in the 17th and 18th centuries to take advantage of the greenhouse effect and allow out-of-season peach cultivation, bear witness to fascinating agricultural ingenuity. Partially listed as a natural area of ecological interest, this unique landscape heritage has long been threatened by urbanization and continues to be defended by passionate associations and residents.
By using this site for its festival, La Girandole contributes to the life and enhancement of this exceptional heritage, making culture a lever for preserving memory and urban biodiversity.
