Three Wednesday evenings in July for free concerts at Parc du Candou: blues, rock, country, and DJ sets
Every July, the town of Carmaux offers three free musical evenings at Parc du Candou. Blues, rock, country, and DJ sets follow one another on Wednesday evenings in this beautiful green space in the heart of the mining town, offering residents of Carmaux and visitors moments of relaxation and live music accessible to all in a friendly, open-air guinguette atmosphere.
When July arrives with its long, bright evenings, the town of Carmaux offers its residents and visitors free, high-quality musical programming at Parc du Candou. For four consecutive Wednesday evenings, the park transforms into an open-air concert hall, hosting local and regional artists and bands for friendly evenings of live music.
Parc du Candou is one of Carmaux's most beloved green spaces. Its century-old trees, shaded lawns, and peaceful atmosphere make it an ideal setting for summer concerts. During the Summer Evenings, a stage is set up in the park, chairs and picnic areas are arranged, and a refreshment stand offers drinks and light snacks. Families arrive early in the evening, children play on the lawns while adults enjoy the music.
The programming for the Summer Evenings of Carmaux reflects the diversity of musical tastes and the energy of rock and popular music:
Carmaux is a town of 10,000 inhabitants in the north of the Tarn, deeply marked by its mining past. Coal mines operated here for nearly three centuries, shaping a strong working-class identity and a popular culture rooted in solidarity and conviviality. Jean Jaurès, a figure of French socialism, began his political career here defending striking miners.
This working-class history gives the Summer Evenings a special significance: popular music accessible to all, free and outdoors, is fully in line with this tradition of shared and open culture. The MuséoParc Verrerie Ouvrière, which bears witness to the town's glassmaking past, and the Stained Glass Museum are also cultural assets that enrich Carmaux's summer cultural offerings.
The complete freeness of the Summer Evenings is an explicit political choice by the municipality of Carmaux: to offer all residents, regardless of income, access to quality live performances. Families with children are particularly welcome: the green setting of Parc du Candou allows children to run and play freely while parents enjoy the concerts.
Snack bars and refreshment stands are usually present to extend the evening pleasantly, creating a festive picnic atmosphere that gives the Summer Evenings their relaxed and popular character.
The bands programmed for the Summer Evenings are mainly from the local and regional musical association network. This priority given to local artists supports local musical creation and offers discoveries to an audience that doesn't necessarily frequent concert halls. It is also an opportunity for emerging bands from the Tarn and neighboring departments to perform in front of a large audience in a festive and relaxed setting.
The Carmaux Summer Evenings return in July 2026 to the Parc du Candou for three free musical evenings on Wednesday nights, from 7 PM to 11 PM. Three dates are scheduled: Wednesday, July 1st, Wednesday, July 8th, and Wednesday, July 22nd, 2026. Blues, rock, country, and DJ sets will animate these open-air evenings in a friendly "guinguette" atmosphere, faithful to the mission of culture accessible to all in the heart of the mining town of northern Tarn. Detailed program (bands and artists) to come.
The city of Carmaux renews its musical invitation for Wednesday evenings in 2026 at Parc du Candou. Three free evenings will punctuate the month of July: Wednesday, July 1st, Wednesday, July 8th, and Wednesday, July 22nd, 2026, each from 7 PM to 11 PM. All residents of Carmaux and visiting guests will enjoy open-air concerts in the green atmosphere of this park in the heart of the city.
Like previous editions, the 2026 program will alternate blues, rock, country, and DJ sets, guaranteeing musical diversity that satisfies all tastes. Each evening maintains its "guinguette" spirit: local food trucks, a refreshment stand run by Carmaux associations (Pollux, swimming and cycling clubs), a picnic area, and a relaxed atmosphere after the day. These evenings are designed to be accessible summer relaxation moments for everyone: free entry, open-air setting, family-friendly atmosphere.
Please note: these Summer Evenings at Parc du Candou are distinct from the National Day celebration on July 14th, which takes place at Parc Jean-Jaurès. So, join us on Wednesdays, July 1st, 8th, and 22nd for popular music under the Carmaux stars.
