FestiVenTarn: The celebration of wind music in the episcopal city

Every autumn, the city of Albi resonates with the sound of brass, woodwinds, and percussion: it's FestiVenTarn, the great gathering of wind music from Tarn organized by the Fédération Musicale du Tarn. Harmonies, fanfares, wind orchestras, brass bands, and wind ensembles from all over the department come together for a day of concerts, parades, and conviviality in the streets and squares of Albi.

A unifying event for amateur musicians in Tarn

FestiVenTarn is above all a unifying and popular event, rooted in the musical associative fabric of the department. The Fédération Musicale du Tarn brings together all the wind music associations in the department — municipal harmonies, village fanfares, wind orchestras, brass groups — and the festival is their major annual gathering.

Each participating group presents a musical program to the public, in the spirit of the great music festivals that mark the tradition of wind bands in France. These associations play an essential role in the cultural life of rural and urban communities in Tarn, by passing on collective musical practice to hundreds of young and old amateur musicians.

Albi, an ideal setting for outdoor music

The city of Albi offers an exceptional setting for the festival. The episcopal city, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with its Sainte-Cécile Cathedral — the largest brick Gothic cathedral in the world —, the Berbie Palace, and the medieval streets of the historic center, provides a magnificent backdrop for concerts and parades.

The orchestras take over the squares and streets of Albi, creating a musical trail through the historic heart of the city. The Parc de la Monteau or other outdoor spaces can host open-air concerts, while parades traverse the main streets of the city center under the gaze of the people of Albi and tourists.

Winds, brass, and percussion: the richness of wind band music

FestiVenTarn celebrates the great diversity of music played by wind and percussion ensembles: traditional marches and anthems, arrangements of classical and popular music, original compositions for wind band, and rhythmic fanfares and brass bands. This popular and accessible music reflects a living and constantly renewing musical heritage.

  • Harmonies and wind orchestras: classical ensembles combining woodwinds, brass, and percussion with varied repertoires
  • Fanfares: brass and percussion ensembles, heirs of military and popular tradition
  • Brass bands: ensembles mixing bright brass and rhythmic percussion, very spectacular in parades
  • Wind ensembles: chamber or varied-sized ensembles exploring contemporary repertoire

An event open to all

FestiVenTarn is a festival open to all, free and without constraints. It is aimed at both music lovers and families wishing to discover or rediscover wind music. The friendly and festive atmosphere that prevails during the event testifies to the vitality of the Tarn musical associative movement and the passion of amateur musicians for their art.
