The Fêtes Générales de Lavaur: The Great Popular Festival of the Pays de Cocagne
The Fêtes Générales de Lavaur are the most anticipated popular event of the year in this medieval town in the Tarn, the capital of the Pays de Cocagne. Every year at the beginning of September, for 5 days and 5 nights, the entire town transforms into a huge festive stage around Place Mengaud and the municipal garden. Free concerts, a giant funfair, fireworks, dance nights, and friendly food stalls make this festival an unmissable event for all the inhabitants of the region.
A unifying theme each year
Each edition of the Fêtes Générales is placed under a theme that guides the decoration, entertainment, and general atmosphere. In 2025, the edition was titled "Tribut's en Fête", highlighting the tribute concert evenings dedicated to great French and international artists. This formula, acclaimed by the public, allows talented bands to pay homage to the biggest stars on open-air stages in a funfair atmosphere.
A dense and varied program
The Comité des Fêtes de Lavaur offers a generous program over the five days:
- 1 kilometer of funfair in the heart of the town, with rides for children, game stalls, and sweets, attracting families and strollers throughout the week.
- Tribute concert evenings at the Grand Jardin: on Friday and Saturday evenings, the main stage of the municipal garden hosts high-quality tribute concerts. In 2025, Friday, September 5th was dedicated to tributes to Renaud and Céline Dion, while Saturday, September 6th resonated with the sounds of Phil Collins and Goldman.
- Free concerts at Place Mengaud: every evening, Lavaur's central square hosts accessible, free, and open-air concerts.
- Dance nights and Discomobile: two evenings hosted by DJs allow dancing until the early hours.
- 1980s Themed Night: a special evening dedicated to the hits of the 80s, highly appreciated by the public.
- Musette Night: in the tradition of popular balls, an accordion and musette evening.
- Mussel and Fries Night: a friendly festive meal, a true institution of the Fêtes Générales.
- Fireworks: on Monday evening (closing), a fireworks display is set off in the Bishop's Garden and Place Mengaud to beautifully conclude the festivities.
An exceptional heritage setting
Lavaur is a medieval town with many heritage assets: the Saint-Alain Cathedral, the Jacquemart of the clock tower, the alleys of the historic center. The Fêtes Générales are fully integrated into this setting, animating the public spaces and squares of the town.

Fêtes Générales de Lavaur — edition 2026
The Fêtes Générales de Lavaur 2026 will be held from Thursday, September 3 to Monday, September 7, 2026, true to their formula of a great popular back-to-school celebration: a kilometer-long funfair in the heart of the city, free open-air concerts, dance parties, and a closing fireworks display. The edition opens with the traditional mussels and fries evening animated by bandas, and the Grand Jardin concert evenings feature tributes to rock legends.
Fêtes Générales de Lavaur 2026 — September 3 to 7
The Lavaur Festival Committee is organizing the 2026 edition of the Fêtes Générales from Thursday, September 3 to Monday, September 7, 2026. For five days, the medieval town of Pays de Cocagne transforms into a huge festive scene, between Place (Square) Mengaud, the Grand Jardin municipal, and the city center avenues.
Opening: Mussels and Fries Evening & Bandas
As tradition dictates, the festivities open with the mussels and fries evening at Square Mengaud, animated by bandas (Gen's Band announced), in a friendly and popular atmosphere.
Tribute Concert Evenings at Grand Jardin
The evenings at the Grand Jardin municipal are dedicated to tribute concerts to great names in rock: tributes to Coldplay, Indochine, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones are announced on the large open-air stage, on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Free Concerts, Discomobile, and Funfair
Each evening, Square Mengaud hosts free open-air concerts, as well as discomobile evenings (Podium Ibiza Night, Ethan EnMix). The kilometer-long funfair installed on the city's avenues offers rides, stalls, and sweets throughout the week, to the delight of families.
Closing Fireworks Display
The Fêtes Générales conclude with the traditional fireworks display, launched at the Jardin de l'Évêché to close five days and five nights of popular celebration.

Location
The Fêtes Générales de Lavaur take place at several points in the town: Place Mengaud (free evening concerts), the Grand Jardin municipal (tribute concert evenings), the Évêché garden (fireworks), and the streets of the town center (1 km funfair).
Access
By car: Lavaur is located on the D112, between Albi and Toulouse. From Toulouse, allow about 40 km (A61 then D112). Free parking is available on the outskirts of the town center.
By train: Lavaur station is served by regional trains from Toulouse. The town center is a few minutes' walk away.
Prices
Open-air concerts at Place Mengaud and funfair attractions are free to access. Tribute concerts at the Grand Jardin may have a participation fee.
