The Fêtes Générales de Lavaur: The Great Popular Festival of the Pays de Cocagne

The Fêtes Générales de Lavaur are the most anticipated popular event of the year in this medieval town in the Tarn, the capital of the Pays de Cocagne. Every year at the beginning of September, for 5 days and 5 nights, the entire town transforms into a huge festive stage around Place Mengaud and the municipal garden. Free concerts, a giant funfair, fireworks, dance nights, and friendly food stalls make this festival an unmissable event for all the inhabitants of the region.

A unifying theme each year

Each edition of the Fêtes Générales is placed under a theme that guides the decoration, entertainment, and general atmosphere. In 2025, the edition was titled "Tribut's en Fête", highlighting the tribute concert evenings dedicated to great French and international artists. This formula, acclaimed by the public, allows talented bands to pay homage to the biggest stars on open-air stages in a funfair atmosphere.

A dense and varied program

The Comité des Fêtes de Lavaur offers a generous program over the five days:

• 1 kilometer of funfair in the heart of the town, with rides for children, game stalls, and sweets, attracting families and strollers throughout the week.
• Tribute concert evenings at the Grand Jardin: on Friday and Saturday evenings, the main stage of the municipal garden hosts high-quality tribute concerts. In 2025, Friday, September 5th was dedicated to tributes to Renaud and Céline Dion, while Saturday, September 6th resonated with the sounds of Phil Collins and Goldman.
• Free concerts at Place Mengaud: every evening, Lavaur's central square hosts accessible, free, and open-air concerts.
• Dance nights and Discomobile: two evenings hosted by DJs allow dancing until the early hours.
• 1980s Themed Night: a special evening dedicated to the hits of the 80s, highly appreciated by the public.
• Musette Night: in the tradition of popular balls, an accordion and musette evening.
• Mussel and Fries Night: a friendly festive meal, a true institution of the Fêtes Générales.
• Fireworks: on Monday evening (closing), a fireworks display is set off in the Bishop's Garden and Place Mengaud to beautifully conclude the festivities.
