Immersive experience between Prehistory and the Middle Ages in Angles-sur-l'Anglin
Tèrra offers a unique cultural experience in Angles-sur-l'Anglin, a medieval gem classified among the Most Beautiful Villages of France, nestled in the Anglin valley in the southeast of Vienne. This ephemeral immersive journey, open every spring from April to May, offers a sensory and poetic crossing connecting two exceptional heritage sites in a single itinerary.
The first stop on the trail, the Roc-aux-Sorciers Interpretation Centre unveils one of the greatest wonders of world prehistoric art. The original sculpted frieze, over 20 meters long and dating back to the Magdalenian period (around 15,000 BCE), features some thirty life-size animals—bison, horses, ibex—as well as remarkably fine human figures. Thanks to an immersive scenography, including a 3D projection film and a life-size tactile replica of the frieze, visitors are plunged into the world of prehistoric artists and discover the monumental art of our ancestors.
The second stage of Tèrra, the Fortress of Angles-sur-l'Anglin, built in the 11th century on a rocky outcrop overlooking the river, offers a breathtaking panorama of the valley. Visitors can explore the remains of this stronghold, which was a strategic point during the Hundred Years' War, discover its dungeons and ramparts, and let themselves be carried away by the chivalrous legends that still haunt these ancient stones.
What makes Tèrra unique is the seamless flow between these two sites, just a few hundred meters apart, united by a narrative staging that weaves a thread between Prehistory and the Middle Ages. Guided by the dedicated app and the scenographic devices installed along the path, visitors enjoy a contemplative stroll in a preserved natural setting. Mediation workshops—guided tours at 3 PM and prehistoric workshops at 4:15 PM—complete the experience upon reservation.
Angles-sur-l'Anglin charms with its remarkable built heritage, its flowery alleys, its half-timbered houses, and its stone bridges spanning the Anglin. The village is also renowned for its Jours d'Angles, a needle embroidery tradition passed down for over 150 years. Tèrra is part of this dynamic of valorizing a territory rich in history and know-how, supported by the iCONiKS network of sites in Vienne.
