The Franco-German Christmas Market under the Municipal Hall
The Franco-German Christmas Market of Argenton-sur-Creuse is a unique festive event in the Indre region, organized annually in late November by the Argenton – Ulm Wiblingen Twinning Committee. Created in the early 2000s, this market is held under the Municipal Hall and brings together about seventy exhibitors offering crafts, French gastronomy, and authentic German specialties: pretzels, sauerkraut, cold cuts, and craft beers. The event celebrates Franco-German friendship through two days of free festivities with a visit from Santa Claus, original decorations, wooden toys, and gift ideas for the holidays. A warm and friendly gathering that has become a true tradition in Argenton.
The Franco-German Christmas Market of Argenton-sur-Creuse is an original and warm event born from the twinning between Argenton and Ulm Wiblingen, in Germany. Organized by the Twinning Committee with the help of about thirty volunteers, this market takes place every year in late November under the Municipal Hall of Argenton-sur-Creuse, the "Venice of Berry". Since the early 2000s, it has established itself as one of the most reputable Christmas markets in the Indre, attracting thousands of visitors each year.
The uniqueness of this market lies in its Franco-German character. The stalls of the twinning committee offer a true gastronomic escape to Germany with typical specialties from German Christmas markets: pretzels, sauerkraut, German cold cuts, and craft beers. The refreshment area allows you to taste these specialties in a festive atmosphere. On the French side, local producers from Berry present their gourmet creations: honey, confectionery, wines, and local products.
About seventy exhibitors set up in the Municipal Hall to offer a wide selection of crafts and gift ideas: Christmas decorations, wooden toys, jewelry, candles, textile creations, wines, and spirits. The atmosphere is typical of German Christmas markets, with scents of spices and mulled wine. Santa Claus is present to welcome children and offer them a moment of magic. Various entertainment events punctuate the weekend for the enjoyment of all visitors.
Admission to the Franco-German Christmas Market is completely free. Over the years, this event has become a true tradition in Argenton-sur-Creuse, celebrating Franco-German friendship and cultural exchange. The volunteers of the twinning committee mobilize each year to offer a high-quality market, true to the spirit of German Weihnachtsmärkte while highlighting the artisanal and gastronomic know-how of Berry.
