Designed as an "off the beaten track" event, it takes over emblematic sites in the Val d'Anglin to make photography accessible to everyone. The festival offers exhibitions in several towns, conferences, text readings, workshops for children, and meetings with invited artist photographers.
The Festival Tout Terrain is a traveling cultural event dedicated to contemporary photography, rooted in the Val d'Anglin territory in the south of Indre. Conceived as a festival "off the beaten track," it aims to take over emblematic locations in villages to make photographic art accessible to the greatest number, including in rural areas furthest from traditional cultural circuits.
The unique aspect of the Festival Tout Terrain lies in its traveling format. Exhibitions and events are not concentrated in one place but unfold in several towns in the area: the priory of Saint-Benoît-du-Sault, village squares, heritage sites, and public spaces become ephemeral galleries. This itinerant nature allows the festival to forge a strong link between contemporary art and the daily life of the inhabitants of Val d'Anglin.
The Festival Tout Terrain places encounters at the heart of its approach. Invited artist photographers present their work through exhibitions, conferences, and privileged exchange sessions with the local residents. These dialogue sessions allow the public to discover diverse contemporary photographic approaches and to grasp the aesthetic and social issues of today's photography.
Throughout the festival, an ambitious program unfolds: exhibitions of contemporary photographs, thematic conferences, text readings related to the images, photobook presentations, photography workshops for children and teenagers, and school interventions for middle school students. Each year, the festival explores different aesthetics, offering a renewed panorama of contemporary photographic creation.
The ambition of the Festival Tout Terrain is resolutely democratic. By setting up quality exhibitions in rural villages, the festival helps reduce inequalities in access to culture. Workshops for young people, school interventions, and the free nature of many activities demonstrate this commitment to raising awareness among all audiences about contemporary photography. The festival proves that it is possible to create a demanding yet popular cultural event, rooted in a rural territory and focused on contemporary creation.
