The Transhumance Festival 2026 takes place on Sunday, July 5, 2026, from 10:30 AM to 6:00 PM, in Chamrousse 1750. This early summer must-do invites young and old to accompany the shepherd and his thousand sheep on a family mountain walk, then to enjoy free entertainment all day long in Roche Béranger.

2026 Edition — Sunday, July 5

The Transhumance Festival returns on Sunday, July 5, 2026 in Chamrousse 1750, from 10:30 AM to 6:00 PM. As every year in early July, it marks the passage of herds to the summer pastures in the Belledonne massif and remains a free and family-friendly event.

The walk with the herd

The departure is at 10:30 AM at the foot of the l'Écrin chairlift (formerly Bachat-Bouloud), in Chamrousse 1750. Visitors accompany the shepherd and his thousand sheep on an approximately one-hour walk along the mountainside, to the sound of Jean-Michel Girard's accordion. The departure time may vary depending on the animals and the weather: it is advisable to arrive a little early.

Free entertainment all day long

After the transhumance, the Roche Béranger area (Chamrousse 1750) hosts numerous free activities for the whole family: carousel, mini-farm, giant wooden games, bubble workshop, children's face painting, wooden creation workshop, screenings and other workshops. The day concludes with a show in the late afternoon.
