The Triathlon du Lion: The flagship event of the Territoire de Belfort
Born from the revival of the Belfort triathlon, the Triathlon du Lion quickly established itself as one of the unmissable sporting events in the Territoire de Belfort. Organized at the Lake Malsaucy site in Sermamagny (90850), just a few kilometers from Belfort, the event attracts more than 1,400 triathletes each spring from France and neighboring countries (Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg).
Malsaucy: An Exceptional Natural Setting
Lake Malsaucy is the natural jewel of the Territoire de Belfort. This body of water, nestled in greenery in the heart of the Southern Vosges, offers an ideal setting for triathlon: calm, clear waters for swimming, forest roads and trails for cycling in the Southern Vosges landscapes, and natural paths around the lake for running. The Malsaucy peninsula is the nerve center of the event, with the transition areas, the exhibitor village, and the podium.
Four Formats for All Profiles
The Triathlon du Lion offers a complete range of formats:
- Race L — La Gueule du Fauve: 1.9 km swimming, 82 km cycling (including the Ballon d'Alsace pass), and 19.5 km running. The ultimate challenge for experienced triathletes.
- Race M — La Rugissante: 1.5 km swimming, 42 km cycling, and 10 km running. The Olympic format par excellence.
- Race S — La Coup de Patte: 300 m swimming, 20 km cycling, and 5 km running. Accessible to beginners and young adults.
- Kids Races: three categories for children aged 6 to 15, to introduce the youngest to triathlon safely.
Duo Mixte, Relay (2-3 people), and Aquathlon with joëlettes (inclusive triathlon) formats complete the offering to make the event accessible to everyone.
A Unifying Event Supported by 200 Volunteers
The success of the Triathlon du Lion relies on the commitment of over 200 volunteers mobilized on the day of the event. Safety, refreshments, signage, reception, and entertainment are provided by this network of enthusiasts. The organization also guarantees a quality experience for spectators: viewpoints along the course, entertainment in the village, and a trophy award ceremony.
A Renewed Sporting Heritage
The Triathlon du Lion perpetuates and renews a long tradition of triathlon in Belfort. After a period of interruption, it has been revamped with a redesigned format and professional organization, while retaining the friendly spirit and the beauty of the natural Malsaucy site that made Belfort events famous.
