About Vexin en Scène

Vexin en Scène is a multidisciplinary festival that takes over the natural and heritage spaces of the Vexin Français Regional Natural Park, in Thémericourt. Every summer, it offers a program mixing theater, music, dance, and street arts in exceptional settings: gardens of the Château de la Roche-Guyon, church parvis, prairies bordered by hazel trees. The festival asserts a strong ambition: to make living culture accessible to the inhabitants of the rural territory, far from the big cities, in a popular and family-friendly spirit.

Vexin en Scène: Living Culture in Nature

In the heart of the Vexin Français Regional Natural Park, amidst wheat fields, chalk cliffs, and golden stone villages, the Vexin en Scène festival has established itself as an unmissable summer event in the Val-d'Oise. Located in Thémericourt (95450), a commune that also houses the Maison du Parc, this festival leverages the territory's landscape and heritage assets to offer extraordinary artistic experiences.

The uniqueness of Vexin en Scène lies in its choice of performance venues. Rather than confining itself to a single stage, the festival unfolds in remarkable Vexin sites: manor gardens, medieval farmyards, naves of Romanesque churches, tree-lined parks. Each performance is born from a dialogue between the artistic proposal and the place that hosts it, creating unique atmospheres that cannot be found anywhere else.

An Eclectic and Demanding Program

The Vexin en Scène program aims to be both accessible and ambitious. Contemporary theater, chamber music concerts, dance performances, circus acts, and musical readings follow one another over one or two weeks in July. The invited companies and artists, often in residence in the Vexin before their performance, develop a special connection with the territory.

The festival showcases regional artists while also welcoming national and international productions. It strives to reach all audiences: families with shows for all ages on weekends, classical music lovers with evening recitals, teenagers with more contemporary and participatory forms.

Arts in the Landscape

One of Vexin en Scène's signatures is the importance given to outdoor arts. Some performances take place outdoors, at dusk, in preserved natural spaces. The light of the setting sun, the birdsong, the rustling of poplar trees become involuntary partners of the artists. These moments of fusion between art and nature often constitute the most memorable souvenirs for festival-goers.

Strong Territorial Roots

Vexin en Scène maintains close ties with local stakeholders: communes of Vexin, Vexin Centre Community of Communes, Vexin Français Regional Natural Park, local associations. This multifaceted collaboration ensures logistics, involves residents in volunteer organization, and develops cultural mediation activities throughout the year.

Artistic workshops, school interventions, and artist encounters complement the festival's program. The goal is to make culture not a passive spectacle but a living and shared experience, rooted in the reality of the Vexin inhabitants.

Thémericourt, Home to Exceptional Natural Heritage

Thémericourt is the village that houses the Maison du Parc naturel régional du Vexin français, located in the Château de la Roche-Guyon. The Vexin français is a 71,000-hectare territory classified as a regional natural park since 1995, recognized for the quality of its agricultural landscapes, its villages, and its built heritage. It is in this setting of sober and authentic beauty that Vexin en Scène offers its performances.

The park, which extends over two departments (Val-d'Oise and Yvelines) and two regions, is a living and natural space less than an hour from Paris. The festival contributes to its cultural enhancement and to the tourist attractiveness of the territory.
