Sound system, deep bass and wild nature in Saint-Jean-Saint-Maurice-sur-Loire
Alive Dub Festival is an independent dub and sound system festival held every autumn at L'Impasse du Bout du Monde, in Saint-Jean-Saint-Maurice-sur-Loire, in the Loire region. Driven by the Bass Cookers association and the Steel Alive duo, this 100% independent event, without grants or sponsors, offers two days of sound system in the forest powered by Dub Addict Sound System, followed by a day of concerts at the farm. Between forest, river, and country paths, the festival offers a peaceful and preserved natural setting, about an hour from Lyon, Saint-Étienne, and Clermont-Ferrand. Free camping, on-site catering, and a participatory spirit define the identity of this human-sized gathering dedicated to bass lovers.
Born in 2024 to celebrate the ten years of the Steel Alive duo and their association Bass Cookers, the Alive Dub Festival has settled in a place with an evocative name: L'Impasse du Bout du Monde, a remote hamlet nestled in the hills of the Côte Roannaise, in Saint-Jean-Saint-Maurice-sur-Loire. After ten years of travel between Reunion Island and mainland France, Steel Alive chose this exceptional natural site to set up their speakers and create a festival in their image: without overproduction, with heart and bass.
The festival format is true to the sound system culture: two evenings in the middle of the forest, powered by the legendary Dub Addict Sound System, pioneers of the dub style in France, represented by Anti-Bypass. The sessions bring together artists from the dub, reggae, and stepper scene, from Friday evening to Saturday night. On Sunday, the atmosphere changes with a day of acoustic and live concerts at the farm, in a more intimate and family-friendly atmosphere.
L'Impasse du Bout du Monde is an atypical cultural site located in an old hamlet, between forest, river, and country paths. The site usually hosts a distillery, an artists' residency, a gîte, and a screening room. Located about an hour from Lyon, Saint-Étienne, and Clermont-Ferrand, it offers a complete change of scenery for festival-goers seeking a connection between music and nature.
Alive Dub Festival claims total independence: no grants, no sponsors. The festival operates thanks to ticket sales, the energy of volunteers, and the involvement of the dub community. Camping is free and reserved for festival-goers. Bar and catering are available on-site. The festival is committed against all forms of violence and discrimination, and prohibits the presence of pets on the site.
Steel Alive is a dub duo formed in 2014 in Lyon, composed of Pouss (composition, accordion, keyboard) and Lucas (scratch, guitar, drumpad). Their music blends dub foundations, hip-hop rhythms, world influences, and scratches, with the accordion as their signature instrument. In 2024, they created their own label, Bass Cookers, under which they release their productions, recorded and mixed by Pilah from Dub Addict Sound System. The festival is their way of sharing ten years of passion with their community.
3rd edition of the Alive Dub Festival at L'Impasse du Bout du Monde in Saint-Jean-Saint-Maurice-sur-Loire. The independent dub and sound system festival returns to its natural setting in the Côte Roannaise for three days of deep bass between forest, river, and country paths.
The 3rd edition of the Alive Dub Festival will take place from October 2 to 4, 2026, at L'Impasse du Bout du Monde in Saint-Jean-Saint-Maurice-sur-Loire. After two editions that have confirmed the relevance of this intimate festival dedicated to sound system culture, the Bass Cookers association and Steel Alive are preparing a new weekend of vibrations in their favorite natural setting.
The festival will retain its proven format: two evenings of sound system in the forest powered by Dub Addict Sound System, and a day of concerts at the farm on Sunday. Still without grants or sponsors, Alive Dub Festival remains true to its commitment to total independence and its participatory spirit.
