About Aplec de Sardanes de Banyuls

The Aplec de Sardanes de Banyuls-sur-Mer is the annual grand gathering of sardanes organized by El Foment de la Sardana de Banyuls. Each summer, this celebration of traditional Catalan dance brings together several coblas (traditional orchestras) on Place Paul Reig and in the streets of Banyuls for sardanes open to all. The great sardana event on the Côte Vermeille

Each summer, Banyuls-sur-Mer, a jewel of the Côte Vermeille, hosts the Aplec de Sardanes, the grand gathering of sardanes organized by El Foment de la Sardana. This emblematic event of Catalan culture brings together dancers, musicians, and enthusiasts around the sardana, a traditional Catalan dance performed in a circle to the sound of the cobla.

A summer season of sardanes

The aplec is the highlight of a summer season rich in sardanes in Banyuls-sur-Mer. Every Thursday evening in July and August, El Foment de la Sardana organizes sardanes evenings starting at 9:30 PM on Place Paul Reig, with renowned coblas:

  • Cobla Mil·lenària
  • Cobla Les Casenoves
  • Cobla Nova Germanor
  • Cobla Les Albères
  • Cobla Principal del Rosselló
  • Cobla Sol de Banyuls

The Aplec: a moment of sharing and tradition

The September Aplec concludes the season with a double sardana performance bringing together several coblas, followed by the traditional onion soup served in the Foment's alley. A moment of conviviality and sharing that symbolizes Banyuls-sur-Mer's attachment to its Catalan roots.

El Foment de la Sardana

El Foment de la Sardana de Banyuls-sur-Mer is the association that animates the sardaniste life of the town. It organizes the summer sardanes evenings, the annual aplec, and supports the Cobla Sol de Banyuls, the local cobla that perpetuates Catalan musical tradition.
