Art takes over the gardens of Rochemaure

Art et Jardins is a unique festival that transforms the medieval village of Rochemaure into an open-air art gallery. The event offers a one-of-a-kind artistic stroll: visitors are invited to open the doors of private homes, explore secret gardens, and discover contemporary artworks installed in places usually closed to the public.

A dialogue between art and heritage

The festival creates a fascinating dialogue between contemporary creation and the exceptional heritage of Rochemaure:

  • Artistic installations in inner courtyards and private gardens
  • Sculptures and outdoor works in the medieval alleys
  • Exhibitions by contemporary artists in heritage sites
  • Land art and plant creations in the village gardens

Rochemaure, the event's setting

Rochemaure, whose name means “black rock” in reference to the volcanic basalt of its cliffs, offers a spectacular setting for this event. The village, dominated by the ruins of its medieval castle and its 12th-century keep, is built on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Rhône valley. Its picturesque alleys, stone houses, and terraced gardens provide an ideal backdrop for contemporary artworks.

A unique sensory experience

Art et Jardins offers an experience that engages all the senses. Visitors stroll from garden to garden, discovering a sculpture, a sound installation, or a plant-based artwork around a bend. The festival showcases the horticultural know-how of Rochemaure's inhabitants while highlighting contemporary artistic creation. It is a moment of sharing and meeting between artists, amateur gardeners, and the curious public, in a typically Ardèche spirit of conviviality.
