About Au Fil du Conte
Since 1992, the Charente Departmental Media Library (MD16) has organized Au Fil du Conte, an autumn festival dedicated to the art of storytelling, featuring professional storytellers and musicians. The festival travels between media libraries in around forty towns across the department, offering free performances open to the general public as well as sessions reserved for schools.
The program blends traditional tales with contemporary creations, brought to life by voices and instruments that change each year depending on the guest artists.
Au Fil du Conte — edition 2026
The 2026 edition kicks off on September 25th at La Canopée in Ruffec with "Des lires," a performance by storyteller Titus, inspired by stories collected from Charente residents throughout the year. In the following weeks, libraries across the department will host a variety of shows, including a stop at the Jarnac library.

The festival continues in various libraries throughout Charente until October; dates will be updated as they are announced by each library in the network.
History
The MD16 has been organizing Au Fil du Conte since 1992. The 2025 edition features 36 free performances across 32 towns in Charente, including 26 open to the public and 10 reserved for schools, with 15 artists on the bill; the 2024 edition drew over 3,000 spectators.
How it works
Each media library in the departmental network hosts one or more dates, including municipal libraries, intercommunal media libraries, and reading networks such as Libellus in Grand Cognac. Admission is free, though online registration is required for some sessions.
