The first blues festival in the La Canourgue basin in Lozère
The Banassac Blues Festival is the first blues festival in the La Canourgue-Banassac basin in Lozère. Organized by the Association France – États-Unis de Lozère, this summer event offers a full day dedicated to blues in all its forms: concerts by professional bands, an open stage for amateur musicians, an exhibition of American vehicles, and a market of local artisans. Since its creation in 2024, the festival has been held on the Place de l'Église in Banassac and offers a friendly and authentic atmosphere.
Born in 2024, the Banassac Blues Festival is a musical event driven by the Association France – États-Unis de Lozère. As the first blues festival in the La Canourgue-Banassac basin, its ambition is to introduce and promote blues music in this rural area of the Lot valley, in the heart of the Lozère department.
The festival unfolds over a full day, from late morning to evening, on the Place de l'Église in Banassac. The program combines concerts by professional blues bands with an open stage allowing amateur musicians to perform for the audience. This participatory format contributes to the warm and relaxed spirit of the event.
During its first edition in 2024, the festival hosted, among others, Jeff Toto Blues and Doc Lou and The Roosters, offering the audience a panorama of blues ranging from Delta standards to more contemporary sounds blending rock and soul. The program highlights regional and national artists passionate about the roots of American music.
The Banassac Blues Festival is not limited to concerts. The event also features an exhibition of American vehicles throughout the day, a nod to the American culture that gave birth to the blues. A market of local artisans allows visitors to discover the local know-how. Food stalls and a bar ensure a convivial atmosphere with sandwiches, fries, and evening meals.
The organization of the festival by the Association France – États-Unis de Lozère demonstrates a desire to build cultural bridges between Lozère and the United States through music. The blues, born in the southern United States at the turn of the 20th century, finds an echo here in the rural landscapes and the authenticity of Lozère life.
Banassac-Canilhac, a commune located in the Lot valley between the Gorges du Tarn and Aubrac, offers a remarkable natural setting for this event. The Place de l'Église, in the heart of the village, transforms for a day into a true open-air blues stage, with the Lozère mountains as a backdrop.
The festival offers accessible prices: €8 in presale at the La Canourgue tourist office or on HelloAsso, and €10 on site on the day. This pricing policy reflects the organizers' desire to make blues accessible to the widest possible audience.
