About Between Courtyards and Gardens
Since 2008, the annual "Fête des Plantes et de l'Art au Jardin" has opened the doors to the private courtyards and gardens of the Cité Plantagenêt in Le Mans, spaces usually hidden from public view. For two days, around fifteen owners grant access to their private havens, while the surrounding alleys, staircases, and squares near the cathedral host over 140 exhibitors showcasing plants, trees, and flowers. Each year, local florists decorate the streets with a unique theme designed to highlight the architectural heritage of the medieval city.
Between Courtyards and Gardens — edition 2026
The 2026 edition takes place on October 10th and 11th under the theme "Water on Stage": water transport and utility vessels, rainwear, and umbrellas will decorate the streets of the Cité Plantagenêt. The guest of honor is Françis Arsène, known as ARZINC, an artist and craftsman who created the giant watering can installed at the foot of Le Mans City Hall, and who was honored in June 2023 at the Chaumont-sur-Loire Festival for his work "Demain, tout ira bien".

The map and detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced by the association in early September 2026; at this stage, only the dates (October 10-11), the theme ("Water on Stage"), and the guest of honor (Françis Arsène, known as ARZINC) have been released.

Practical information — Between Courtyards and Gardens
Access to the Cité Plantagenêt is free; a paid wristband is required to enter the secret gardens and participate in certain activities. Wristbands are available for purchase at the Maison du Pilier Rouge (square Dubois, in the Cité Plantagenêt) and at the tourist office (rue de l'Étoile). During the weekend, two additional sales points will be open at place Saint-Michel and promenade Saint-Hilaire.
Secret gardens
The core concept of the festival lies in these private courtyards and gardens of the Cité Plantagenêt, invisible from the street, which owners open for one special weekend. Access to these "secret gardens" requires the festival wristband.
A fresh look every year
The staircases, narrow alleys, and main thoroughfares of the old town are transformed by local florists according to a new theme each year. A patron is invited to lend their support and profile to the event.
Organization
The festival is organized by the association Entre Cours et Jardins, with the support of the City of Le Mans services.
