Created in 2022, this event celebrates the historical ties between Le Perche and Quebec, referencing the many Percherons who emigrated to New France in the 17th century. Attache ta Tuque: Le Perche reconnects with Quebec

Since 2022, the Attache ta Tuque festival has enthusiastically celebrated the age-old ties between Le Perche and Quebec. Organized by the communauté de communes des Hauts du Perche, this original and festive event immerses visitors in the history of Percheron emigration to New France, which saw hundreds of families leave Le Perche in the 17th century to settle in Canada.

A Quebec expression becomes a festival

The festival's name refers to the Quebec expression "Attache ta tuque avec d'la broche," meaning "prepare yourself well for what's coming." The tuque, an iconic woolen hat from Quebec, symbolizes the link between the two territories and the event's convivial spirit.

A rich and varied program

The festival offers an eclectic program combining history, culture, and entertainment:

  • Historical reenactments of the lives of New France pioneers
  • Ephemeral ice rink as a nod to Canadian hockey
  • Maple taffy on snow, a sweet Quebec tradition
  • Archery and skill games
  • Storytelling and readings blending Percheron and Quebec traditions
  • Creative workshops for children and families
  • Concerts of folk and traditional music
  • Conferences on the history of Percheron emigration
  • Film screenings related to Canada
  • Escape game on the theme of New France

Tourouvre, the cradle of emigration to Canada

Tourouvre-au-Perche is the ideal location to host this festival. The commune is home to the Musée de l'Émigration française au Canada (Museum of French Emigration to Canada), which retraces the epic journey of Percheron families who left to colonize New France. Family names like Tremblay, Gagnon, Bouchard, and Roy, among the most common in Quebec, originate from villages in the Orne region of Perche.

A festival that shines

Created in 2022 in partnership with other territories with historical ties to Canada (Normandie Sud Eure, Bassin de Marennes in Charente-Maritime), Attache ta Tuque quickly found its audience. The festival attracts visitors interested in history, families, and Franco-Canadians eager to trace the footsteps of their Percheron ancestors.
