Some games are open to the public.

Basque Strength, an Ancestral Sporting Tradition
The Bidart Basque Strength Festival perpetuates a sporting tradition deeply rooted in Basque culture. What were once challenges between young farmers has become a competition between villages, each willingly putting their strength at the service of the community whose honor they defend. The game is an integral part of the Basque soul, and the Bidart festival offers a vivid and spectacular illustration of it every summer.
Five Summer Mondays at the Grand Fronton
From late July to late August, the Grand Fronton in Bidart, located on avenue Chabadenia, hosts five exceptional evenings dedicated to Basque strength events. Every Monday evening at 9 PM, spectators discover or rediscover the emblematic disciplines: the harrijasotzaile (stone lifting), where athletes lift stone blocks of over 100 kg; the aizkolari (log cutting), a test of speed and endurance with an axe; the soka-tira (tug-of-war), a collective test of pure strength; and the orga joko (cart lifting), a demonstration of raw power.
A Participatory and Family Festival
The originality of the Bidart Basque Strength Festival lies in its participatory dimension. Some games are open to the public, inviting spectators to experience Basque strength from the inside and pass on this passion to new generations. This approach, driven by the association Alegera, the festival's band and organizer, makes the festival a moment of intergenerational sharing where attention to roots and the transmission of traditions are at the heart of the project.
Bidart, Land of Basque Traditions
Bidart, a coastal village located between Biarritz and Guéthary on the Basque coast, is a place where Basque traditions remain particularly vibrant. The Grand Fronton, an emblematic venue for Basque pelota, transforms into a Basque strength arena every summer, offering an authentic and friendly setting for these traditional sporting events. The festive atmosphere is enhanced by the presence of the Alegera band and the entertainment accompanying each evening, making these summer Mondays a must-attend event of the summer season on the Basque coast.
