The Trails du Pignada: Nature running in the heart of the Soustons forest

Every year in September, the forest of Soustons hosts the Trails du Pignada, a nature running competition that has become a must-attend event for trail runners in the Southwest. Organized by AS Soustons Running, a dynamic club affiliated with the FSGT (Fédération Sportive et Gymnique du Travail), these trails offer varied routes through the municipal forest domain.

Routes 90% in the forest

The unique feature of the Trails du Pignada is the quality of its routes, which are 90% in the forest within the municipal domain of Soustons. Runners navigate diverse trails, among maritime pines, cork oaks, and undergrowth, offering complete immersion in the Landes nature:

• Expert Trail (22 km): the main route, technical and demanding, winding through the most beautiful parts of the Soustons forest with single-track sections, sandy climbs, and rolling parts
• Discovery Trail (11 km): an accessible route that allows less experienced runners to discover the pleasure of forest trail running
• Children's Mini-Trails: 1.5 km, 2.5 km, and 4 km races specially designed for young runners, free and supervised

FSGT French Championships

In 2025, the Trails du Pignada had the honor of hosting the French FSGT Nature Running Championships, a recognition of the quality of the organization and the routes. This national event attracted runners from all over France, confirming the growing influence of this Landes competition.

La Pignada: Pine in Gascon

The name “Pignada” comes from Gascon and means pine forest, the forest of pines that characterizes the Landes landscape. Soustons, a town in the southern Landes, has a vast forest domain stretching from the shores of Soustons pond to the hinterland. This well-maintained and preserved forest offers an ideal playground for trail running.

AS Soustons Running: A committed club

AS Soustons Running is the pillar of FSGT activity in the Landes, with the largest number of members in the department. The club organizes the Trails du Pignada with the support of PB Organisation for the logistical management of the races, ensuring professional organization and reliable timing.
