The Brunoy Carnival: a parade between tradition and conviviality
Each year, as spring approaches, the town of Brunoy (91800) transforms into a festive stage to host its traditional carnival. A truly popular and family event, the Brunoy Carnival perpetuates the long tradition of carnival parades in Essonne, bringing together residents, associations, and schoolchildren in a joyful and colorful atmosphere.
The parade: the heart of the carnival
The highlight of the event is the parade, which starts at the town hall square. From 3:30 PM, a festive procession composed of decorated floats, brass bands, costumed troupes, and musical entertainment parades through the streets of Brunoy. The public, lining the sidewalks, cheers on the participants and gets carried away by the festive atmosphere. Confetti and music punctuate the route to the finish line.
The cremation of the winter man
The parade concludes at the Maison des arts with one of the most symbolic moments of the carnival: the cremation of the winter man at 4:30 PM. This ancient ritual, present in many French carnivals, symbolizes the definitive farewell to the cold season and the renewal of spring. It is a festive and spectacular moment that marks the closing of the event.
A convivial moment for the whole family
The Brunoy Carnival is above all a family and intergenerational event. A free snack is offered to children under 12, demonstrating the town's commitment to offering an accessible moment of sharing for everyone. Children are invited to come in costume to fully participate in the celebration, and the entire route is designed so that young and old can enjoy the show.
Local associations, schools, and neighborhood committees actively participate in the preparation of floats and costumes, making the carnival a true collective project that mobilizes the community long before the big day.
