Festival of contemporary music in Grez-en-Bouère in Mayenne
Born in 2010 from the desire of about ten young inhabitants of Grez-en-Bouère, the Ça Grézille festival has established itself over the years as a must-see musical event in the south of Mayenne. The association behind the project was founded with a simple ambition: to create a moment of celebration and sharing around music in a rural area, far from the major festival circuits. The name of the festival, a play on words between the name of the town and the verb "grésiller" (to sizzle), perfectly captures the energy that drives this event: making music vibrate and crackle in the Mayenne countryside.
The Ça Grézille festival takes place every year in May, over two days. On Friday evening, concerts start at 8 PM and continue late into the night. On Saturday, the program begins in the afternoon with open-air concerts in the village center of Grez-en-Bouère, before resuming in the evening at the main festival site. In total, more than a dozen bands perform each year, in a festive and eclectic spirit. The programming mixes rock, French chanson, reggae, ska, electro, world music, and brass bands, offering a broad panorama of contemporary music.
What makes Ça Grézille strong is its local roots and its intergenerational spirit. Driven by a team of passionate volunteers, the festival brings together the inhabitants of Grez-en-Bouère and surrounding towns, from families to young adults. The festival site offers a bar, on-site catering, and free camping for festival-goers coming from further afield. The Saturday afternoon concerts, organized in the heart of the village, strengthen the link between the festival and local life, transforming the streets of Grez-en-Bouère into an open-air stage.
Over the years, Ça Grézille has hosted various artists and bands such as Billy Ze Kick, Sidi Wacho, La Gâpette, Elisa Do Brasil, The Sunvizors, La P'tite Fûmée, Mystery Chord, EZPZ, and Strup. This diverse programming reflects the organizers' desire to offer an accessible and surprising lineup, where headliners rub shoulders with local and regional discoveries.
The Ça Grézille festival benefits from the support of Tranzistor, the contemporary music network in the Pays de la Loire region, as well as local authorities. This institutional recognition testifies to the quality of the work accomplished by the volunteer team and the place the festival has carved out for itself in the cultural landscape of Mayenne. Ça Grézille actively contributes to the cultural dynamism of the territory and the promotion of contemporary music in rural areas.
The Ça Grézille festival returns in May 2026 in Grez-en-Bouère for a new edition. The program and practical details will be announced on the festival website and the association's social media.
